Location is excellent with bus stops right in front to go anywhere we need. Walkable (we took half an hour walking) to the Gion district, kimono rental and "historic" city etc. MANY shops and restaurants right outside the hotel. We love the (Japanese and western) breakfast! Others may not like just due to personal taste. Rooms are good but limited space as expected in Kyoto with comfortable beds. Hotel decor presentation is very nice with modern decor. Interesting history of hotel site in exhibit at front to discover. Friendly and helpful front desk. Shared lounge with free tea/coffee/cocoa and seating areas and a nice library (some very good picture books on Kyoto) is a great feature. Great free amenities - PJs are comfortable. Hotel delivered towels/water daily but you leave trash outside - works fine. Overall, we are very happy with the hotel and would recommend to others. Walking distance to Starbucks nearby on river side - we sat on the balcony with nice view to enjoy the evening on our eve of departure. Nice.

Kyoto is so crowded ! Unfortunately it lost the charm I’m assuming it used to have because you are swimming through CROWDS of bodies (like at Disney World) I would go back to Japan in a heartbeat but probably not to Kyoto. There are so many other stunning places in Japan that haven’t been ruined by tourism yet. Japan is an incredible country…..probably one of my favorites in the whole world. It’s just Kyoto that is too crazy

The AOI hotel we stayed in was AWSOME!
The AOI hotel we stayed in was AWSOME! Strongly recommend it. Beds were extremely comfortable, 12 ft ceiling allowed for cooled atmosphere, the room was spacious and had absolutely everything that a traveller would need, including a magnifying makeup mirror. Also a delicate music was provided via an iPad. Everyday the cleaning service was provided which made the room immaculate over and over. The bathroom facility was spectacular, with rainforest shower head and a shampoo, body wash, conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste, hairbrush etc provided. The artwork was of an excellent taste and matched the ambiance of the room. First class service.

Kyoto has much to offer for anyone wanting to experience both history and culture. The city is very walkable. It is also relatively flat so perfect for anyone wanting to explore by bicycle. For those interested in sampling different foods the food stalls provide opportunities to try so many Japanese delicacies.

It was my first city on the Japan 2-week trip, followed by Nara, Osaka, and Tokyo. I felt it has a great balance of historical sites, food options, pleasant riverside, and modern areas around the Kyoto station.
It was a bit overcrowded even in May, I can imagine the crowds during cherry season.
I skipped some main touristy points like the bamboo forest and the Golden Sth temple as by the reviews they seemed a bit overhyped.
I would suggest 2-3 nights for optimal stay, or more if going on day trips to Uji and Nara.

The lights by the Kyoto station make the city live and lots of people in the surrounding.
Most eateries are pretty small compared to Tokyo, and need to wait for a long time which is not great for tourists as time is extremely valuable as tourists.

Kyoto was excellent we stayed 4 days and the most surprising thing was the food. It was absolutely excellent! It rained for two days so that did hinder tourist visits but we had excellent time. We didn’t do any tours just wandered around - hired a bike - went to temples and the city provided in abundance Ps don’t go to the Bamboo Forest on a Sunday!! Too packed :)
The best location! In front of Yasaka Shrine, walking distance Ninenzaka, Senenzaka, Kiyomuduzera, Nishiki Market and a lot more. 1 train to Fushima Inari, 1 bus to philosophers path. We watched the sunset at the nearby river while drinking coffee, had walked throught the streets of Gion at night, walked through temples in the morning. Starbucks at 1st floor and outside is full of japanese street foods. Good hotel breakfast, the rooms were clean and big enough, good ammenities. Loved my stay here for 5days in Kyoto.
Very good surprise with the séquence Hotel.
It is a moderne boutique-hotel, with quite spacious rooms, very clean and new onsen and sauna (not too crowded) and great location close to the station and in walking distance from multiple temples. 15-30 min wal from Gion area.
The personnel was very helpful and the restaurant (we only had diner once) serving wagyu burgers good quality.
Actually it was the best 4star value for money hotel for our trip in Japan.
Good location, near Nishiki Market and main shopping area. Fairly close to Gion, it’s walkable if you are up for it. The hotel is directly linked via underpass to Karasuma and Kyoto Kawaramachi station though it can be quite a walk. There is free sake for guests every night.
Staff was very helpful with luggage forwarding - they even called ahead to our hotel in Osaka to confirm our booking and let them know to expect our luggages.
The staff smile and help was heartwarming.
Always ready and will do they're best to help.
Inclouding cleaning staff, super polite and concederate.
The location is perfect, train to Osaka and out of Kyoto ia next to the hotel, train for Arashiyama right infront of it. And Kyoto which uses a lot of bus, the station near the hotel makes it feel like central station, you can get anywhere and back very easy.
I can’t say enough good things about this property. I was able to utilize the new year promotion plan they had going on and ended up staying for 10 days at this hotel. This was the best of all the 4 hotels I stayed at while visiting Japan. Close to Kyoto Station, with food shops right out front. Washing and drying machines are on site. It was a big room and great value at the price I got it at.
This is the best accommodation I've stayed in during my one-month travel journey. No doubt all Japanese hotels are exceptionally clean, but this one is more than clean; it feels brand new and fresh. The location is perfect, with the station within 100 meters. Facilities are great, Coffee library , Coin Laundry inside the hotel. Highly recommended
This was the perfect Ryokan for my needs. The breakfasts in the morning were incredible and varied per day. The hotel has a bit of wear and tear which we felt added to the charm and the staff were the BEST. It was close enough to downtown Kyoto to walk to everything we wanted to do, but quiet enough to get a good nights sleep.
In Japan in 10 days I changed 5 cities and 4 hotels. This was the best! Amazing Onsen, breakfast is 5 star quality, I loved their toast with Salmon and eggs! Friendly staff, very supportive and kind, the best location, right next to the Kyoto Station, easy to move around. I would definitely come back here again and again
Would recommend this hotel when being matched to other Japan hotels. This was by far the best quality we had during our 12 day tour. All were classed 4*. Be aware when staying in hotels in Japan rooms are small. Best and most helpful staff. From station get the number 4, 17 or 205 they all stop outside the hotel.
The best aspect about this hotel is the amazing location right in the heart of Kyoto’s Kawaramachi Street which is a stones through away from Nishiki Market and so many shops.
Had a great time and maximised is great location. Very close to Gion and a Kyoto loop line stop which does all notable parts of Kyoto.
The location was the best thing about our stay. Directly next to the station, it made our life much easier with commuting. The hotel itself is clean and has all basic neccassities and the people were friendly. hot
I couldn't use the onsen because of my tattoos but I checked it out and it looked nice.
The facilities provided by Hotel Excellence were truly excellent! The walking distance to Kyoto station was very convenient. The room and bathroom were exceptional clean, and the best was the breakfast and all-day beverages provided.
I highly recommend staying at Hotel Excellence when in Kyoto.
It takes about 13 minutes to get to the hotel from Kyoto station which is quite convenient. The staff does a great job to help you with my requests to keep our luggage pre-checkin and post-checkout, and they also helped arranging a taxi for us. They are the best part of my stay in the hotel.
Best hotel ever. Highly recommended. Close to kyoto station, walking distance. Cozy hotel, extremelly clean, staff super friendly. Spacious room and best breakfast ever. Lots of variatey. The spa is also super cool. You will not be dissappointed if you stay there
Excellent choice, near Nishiki Market, 20 min walk to Gion area, in a very peaceful area. It’s a small boutique hotel, very clean. Staff very kind.
It has a ATM form money exchange. They offer tipical japanese pijamas.
Only one stop from Kyoto station
The room was very nice and spacious. The train and bus station is a minute walk away from the hotel. Convenience stores were close as well. The neighbourhood of the hotel was quiet. The best part was the onsen.
Location. View from rooms. Spacious rooms. Very comfortable. Great service and staff. The location is the best. Right at the train station, close to restaurants and shopping malls. Temples, etc. Excellent hotel
