Where Everybody Knows Your Name
One of the oldest and most historic US cities, Boston is known as "America’s Walking City". In its heart, next to 18th-century Faneuil Hall, is Quince Market - a food haven. In the nearby seaport, you can take a whale-watching trip or dine at one of the many restaurants serving a Boston specialty: lobster with melted butter.
The streets south of the peaceful Charles River in Back Bay are lined with Victorian brownstone houses. At the downtown end of one – Beacon Street – is the Cheers bar, modeled on the 80's sitcom. Opposite is Boston Common, a large park with a bronze sculpture celebrating the book "Make Way for Ducklings". The golden dome of the House of Representatives is by the other end.
The oldest part is Charlestown and streets around the Bunker Hill obelisk still feature old-style gas lamps, though now they are electric. Over in Cambridge, Harvard is the USA’s oldest and most prestigious university. The campus is open to the public, as is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), whose central point is an emblematic, Pantheon-like building.
Sport in Boston is also a big thing, with the Celtics and Red Sox among the city’s big name teams.
The largest New England city, Boston has the perfect size for walking and cycling. Logan International Airport is connected by public transport to Boston hotels, motels, apartments and B&Bs.

So much history to explore and markets to enjoy. There was a great ramen restaurant on Newberry Street, and a good Irish pub a few blocks from my hotel. A walk to Union Oyster House was rewarded with a fine meal, including chowder. Fenway Park more than met my expectations. Love that place. We went to Boston in the summer.
We went to Boston in the summer. Enjoyed the walking tour of the freedom trail. The Boston tea party museum was interesting. We took a day trip to Salem as well. Boston is well connected with public transportation so going around is convenient. Lovely city on the water.
Lovely city on the water. Historical boat trip well worth the money (1 hour). Trip up the Pru Tower well worth it and for those of a certain age, Cheers Bar well worth the visit. There is so much to see in Boston.
There is so much to see in Boston. It is a city which one can walk around. We had fun dining at the "Cheers" bar and visiting the bay where the Boston Tea Party took place. I loved the Italian quarter, where Paul Revere's house is situated. I could have spent a week just sampling all the Italian food at the many restaurants there. Look out for the free municipal buses, but don't worry if you have to use the subway. It only costs a few dollars. Enjoy!Guest review byEDWARD
