We had a lovely month-long stay here on Cozumel. The hosts, who live on the property, are kind, and can do laundry for you (paid.) The garden seating area is gorgeous, and you’ll get regular visits from the cats and dog that live on property. We loved living in this section of the island, which is far from attractions (rent bikes or a moto!) and has zero tourists- exactly what we were looking for.
There is an additional apartment on this floor that has other travelers in it- we made great friends with one set, and will continue our travels with them next month!
There’s a tienda across the street for snacks and drinks, and there are enough cooking supplies in the kitchen to make your time here something resembling living in Mexico, as opposed to vacationing in it. Recommend!

Large 3 bedroom, 1.5bathroom villa was perfect for our family vacation. Everyone had space. The full sized kitchen was handy for prepping food and full sized dinningroom was convenient to eat in comfort right in our villa. The pool was nice for an evening dip. Located in a quiet neighborhood. The beds were comfortable and quiet. The balcony and front patio was a great area to enjoy and relax too. 5 min drive from downtown and Super Market.

The staff was outstanding. I do not know their names but everybody was smiling and it appear they enjoyed working there. I only had one complementary breakfast due to my early morning schedule. Today was my last day there and I had breakfast. It was very good.

If you love the sea, snorkeling and diving this is the right place for you. Fabulous sea world and fun divers brother/sisterhood.
The island is also visited by many big cruise ships and that changes the intimate feel of some locations when those ships are inn.

By far the best thing about Playa del Carmen is the close...
By far the best thing about Playa del Carmen is the close proximity to cenotes. They are amazing water filled caves that you can explore, but you'll always need to do so with a guide.
Otherwise, Playa del Carmen is pretty whatever. Kinda fun if you're looking for touristy party bar vibes (like Hard Rock Cafe type stuff), but generally it feels like a tourist trap for the most part.
There are soooo many scammers here and it's really hard to tell what is a legitimate official group or just another scammer. For example, the Tulum national park entrance is filled with people selling tickets and tours as if they are park employees, but they are not. They even have constructed a fake security gate entrance to make it appear you must buy tickets before entering the park area, and of course the tickets they sell are about 4x the actual price.
The beaches could be nice if they weren't filled with garbage. This is likely because many street food vendors and restaurants serve styrofoam and plastic utensils that frequently end up on the beach and broken into tiny bits. So the beaches are actually quite ugly as a result.
Tren Maya is pretty useless since they decided to construct it miles inland from the towns, so it just leaves you in the middle of the jungle.
Overall, I mostly just felt like I was being ripped off every day I was in Playa de Carmen and the area around it.
I'd only recommend visiting a cenote or two and leaving for some place nicer.

I have been visiting Cozumel for 15 years, for diving.
I have been visiting Cozumel for 15 years, for diving. While the people are friendly and the number of good restaurants has increased over that time, unfortunately the reef has been degraded effecting the diving experience. Its is my contention the powers that control Cozumel care more about making money from cruise ships than the environment, local people or infrastructure of Cozumel.

Playa del Carmen is lively and full of energy, but the city beach can get crowded, and some areas aren’t always clean due to dogs and their activities. I would suggest staying in Playacar or nearby for a cleaner, more private beach while still being close to the city.

I enjoyed the natural beauty of the areas outside the touristy downtown area. I rented a scooter and drove the entire perimeter of the island (about 2 hours around without stops), but there are a few sightseeing locations, so plan a bit more time. I was there to go scuba diving and it did not disappoint. Once you get out of the touristy areas Cozumel is basically a rundown Caribbean island with not much to offer.

Beaches aren't great, to be honest.
Beaches aren't great, to be honest. They look cool from the outside. The main beaches are full (1-10 December).
The one by the resort had some big rocks and wasn't very good for kids. The water looks very nice, though.
