The Cromwell Arms is a 17th century oak-beamed coaching inn located in Bovey Tracey. On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, 4 mi from Haytor Rocks, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It was a very well stay at this location. The bar wasn’t too loud and when you don’t want to eat here there are several places to do.

Small village with few shops. The Indian restaurant was very good. Accessible to lovely countryside walks from the village. National Trust Parke on the edge of the village follows the river with plenty of walks. Situated on the outskirts of Dartmoor which offers wonderful scenery and plenty of Tors to hike.
What a lovely little town. We walked around and found the most wonderful art gallery that had local artists displays and beautiful work of all kinds. The people were lovely all over and the town itself is very picturesque and easy to get around. Lovely cheese shop and little boutiques to keep busy visiting. Loved it!
We were a small group of walkers staying at The Dolphin for a few days, It turned out to be an excellent choice! Plenty of parking space (even for one of our number who arrived in a motor-home) and a very warm welcome. The rooms were clean, comfortable & recently refurbished especially the en-suites which were immaculate & appeared to be brand new. Tea & Coffee was provided in our rooms & fresh milk & drinking water was thoughtfully placed in a fridge on the landing. We all slept well after an excellent evening meal from the extensive menu followed by drinks in the bar. Breakfast was served at sensible times, cereals & fruit juice followed by freshly cooked choices from the breakfast menu. All the staff were polite, helpful and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble, all in all a superb small hotel with good facilities at reasonable cost located at the Gateway to Dartmoor which deserves every success.
As it says On the edge of Dartmoor, Bovey Tracey has a nice park that connects into a national trust park that has a nice circular walk this a nice café stop on the way for refreshments. the Bell inn id the best of the two pubs in the town and the Brookside café does a nice breakfast
Lots on offer even out of season, found a lovely little tea room in main street, good food very welcoming. Large car park. within easy reach Dartmoor Park and also other towns . Try the round robin trip, boat up the Dart, steam train ride and then bus lovely trip.
Bovey Tracey itself is a small and fairly remote spot. We had to travel into Newton Abbot (30 min drive) for food in the evening in order to find a selection of pubs and restaurants. We didn't explore the are very much as we were using this as a base to explore other parts of Devon (Paignton and Torquay) Although it was some 30-40 minute drive to these more touristy spots.
Bovey Tracey
Josh and Natalie are so friendly and welcoming. The food hamper was delicious, the bread still warm. Peaceful, beautiful location with stunning views. Accommodation suited the 4 of us - cosy with books and games for the evening. Having the animals on site was wonderful, we woke up to the sweet Alpacas looking in 🙂. The farm is close to so many places to visit: Bovey Tracey village & outdoor lido, Newton Abbott for shops and cafes and just a 20 min drive to Teignmouth on the coast.
Bovey Tracey
We were visiting family in the Bovey Tracey area so the location was great for us. We also got a chance to explore some old haunts on Dartmoor. Although quite small, Cobb Cottage was warm, cosy, comfortable, well equipped and perfect for a couple for a short stay. It has stunning views across the Vale of Bovey and towards the east Dartmoor tors. We had everything we needed except maybe a TV. Great hosts. Would definitely stay again.
Bovey Tracey
The Cromwell Arms is in a great location for exploring Dartmoor. Our room was on the top floor and was huge and really comfy. A very generous, and delicious, breakfast was included. We also ate dinner here - good food and reasonably priced. All staff were really friendly and happy to help with anything we needed. Will definitely stay here again!

Bovey Tracey has a reasonable range of (non-foodie) dining and great shopping options including butcher, greengrocer, deli and cheese shop.

Everything is right about this relaxing characterful little hotel on the moor. The food is exceptional and very good value!. The staff are experienced efficient and friendly and the hotel itself old and full of personality. Lovely garden to sit with a drink in the sunshine. We can’t recommend highly enough. Mandy Smith
