Southeast of Birmingham, Coventry is best known for the shell of its old cathedral, a poignant reminder of the damage sustained during World War II. Part of its northern wall joins the new Modernist cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence.
In the neighboring gardens, there are remains of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery set up by Lord Leofric. His wife, Lady Godiva, became Coventry’s greatest legend by riding naked on horseback in protest of her husband’s high taxes.
St. Mary’s Guildhall is built on part of the old castle, and Baginton on the city’s outskirts houses the reconstructed Roman Lunt Fort. Coventry Airport is also here, by the Midland Air Museum, where the exhibits include a Vulcan.
The Coventry Transport Museum has great examples of vehicles manufactured in the city over the years. Another point of interest are the canals north of the city's center, lined by historic buildings. Other attractions include the Warwick Arts Centre – the UK’s 2nd largest – and the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC. The Sky Dome Arena is an ice hockey and music venue, while the best shopping is found in Arena Park Center.
The city has 2 universities and tons of bars and restaurants. There are also several Coventry hotels, guesthouses and country houses on Booking.com, most with parking and some with pools.
Coventry is an ideal city for a short break. The centre is great to walk about, the Cathedral is magnificent, the museum and art gallery exceeds expectations and plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops. Buses also good to travel about and rail station walkable to centre.
We could see that Coventry is trying to improve things. But it still has a long way to go. We liked the green spaces that had been created in the shopping area, but the need a boost in more reputable clothing shops. Also in certain part of the city centre it still remains looking deprived. We liked there are now more restaurants to choose from.
The property was clean and tidy with a good shower staff were very friendly and helpful. Meals provision is Waitrose mini shop, Subway, KFC or Burger King, if you prefer a more substantial meal eat before arrival. For being on a motorway not a bad stay
Coventry is a lovely city with a good mix of old and modern. The city is quite small which adds to the feel of the place as most things are within walking distance. There's is a good bus service and trains are regular. Would recommend.
I understand it’s quiet a way to the city centre but that didn’t bother us. Lovely area with quiet braids which are well marked. The restaurant and bar are excellent as are the very friendly staff. Very good middle range menu. All food cooked to order and piping hot.
The modern architecture around the university and cathedral was stunning. There was a multicultural atmosphere with loads of bright students from China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, African countries. The Arts Centre at the University of Warwick is a fantastic cultural centre - we saw Oppenheimer the day it was released. There is an amazing variety of excellent restaurants, all very reasonably priced. Coventry is brilliantly served with a network of buses so it is cheap, easy and quick to get around.
6 of us came to stay for our son’s Graduation Day at Coventry University We had the best time - the hotel was terrific , the slightly upgraded rooms you recommended were just great. The food was first class- all 6 agreed- and the level of service and friendliness of the staff was outstanding. We felt considering the very high standard of what you provide, the hotel was excellent value. We all have no hesitation in recommending the hotel enthusiastically. Thankyou.
Coventry
I liked the fact that breakfast was included in the package which made it extra value for money. The staff was also very friendly and helpful and recommended the app JustEat to order food delivery when I asked for help to get lunch when I didn't know my way around Coventry on my first day there. He also pointed me place where I could visit in the city centre and helped me book a cab for my journey the next day. Very warm and accommodating service.
Coventry
lovely host/owner, comfy bed and very clean, just a shame the property is falling into disrepair, needs a good overhaul and a nice breakfast put on etc would be a great touch. would be an amazing wedding venue etc great location for the coventry arena. host met me on arrival and even dropped me off at the local pub. hope they spend some money renovating soon and would be an amazing hotel.
Nice room. Basic, but had everything we needed. Modern decor. Comfy bed, good shower etc. The location is perfect for Coventry town centre. A walk through the pedestrian underpass across the big roundabout and your in town. Parking in the hotels own carpark was only a fiver. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
This is nice quiet hotel near Coventry city centre, ideal for work. I have stayed quite a few times now. Comfy and clean, some of the rooms have been renovated and are to a high standard, others are obviously still to be done. Bar food fresh and reasonably priced.
The hotel was only a few hundred yards from Coventry rail station. The guy on reception was very nice and friendly. My room was nice and big and can honestly say never been in a hotel room in Britain with a b-day in.
A very nice hotel, situated in a vibrant environment at the heart of the city centre. It is just stone-thrown away from the marvellous Coventry Transport Museum. I will surely book again whenever i visit Coventry.
Clean with good open plan kitchen/diner/lounge. Big bedrooms and hall. Parking was very useful. Good location for visiting Coventry sights.
Exceptionally friendly and professional staff. Styling and decor throughout hotel is fantastic. Size of room is generous and very comfortable.
