When we booked The Old Stables we didn't know what to expect. The price was good and the location was convenient and the hotel looked interesting, so we thought, "Why not?" Little did we know the treat we were in for! The rooms, the staff, the facility itself was above and beyond anything we could have wanted. And the breakfast was, by far, the best we had during our 12 day tour of Scotland. We would highly, highly recommend The Old Stables to anyone traveling to Scotland and wishing to stay in the boarders area. Moffat was simply a wonderful little town as well! We will make a point to stay at The Old Stables on our next visit! 10 stars!!!!

The host was very welcoming, and had provided thorough information before we arrived. I had asked for recommendations for dining, and received a variety of options. The one we chose (Italian) was excellent. We thought the church bells might keep us awake, but they stop after 10, so not a concern at all. Excellent breakfast too. A lovely spot for a stay. Thank you John for hosting us.

Playparks for children. Can get bus to Hamilton or Glasgow or head south. train station nearby goes to Edinburgh. Lots of accommodation options.

    It's a pretty country town, once a spa, set in deeply rural Southern Uplands, with good hill-walking a few miles away. There are a variety of shops, mainly local, some touristy. It's a good base for exploring a relatively unfrequented part of Scotland.

    We only had chance for a short walk around the town but what we did see looked good, bars, shops restaurants etc. It was easy to walk into Moffat from the guest house and is within easy reach of main roads leading to other towns.

    Chose Moffat as a mid point stay on our from the East of...

    Chose Moffat as a mid point stay on our from the East of England to the Isle of Skye and it was a perfect location. Moffat has a good mix of shops and pubs, we ate at the bull which was very nice. The surrounding country side is dramtic and forms a great back drop.

    Moffat is a lovely town.

    Moffat is a lovely town. We broke our journey from Inverness with an overnight stay there. It is a short distance from the main A74, there is ample free parking and the town has lots of hotels and eateries. Perfect.

    Compact but plenty of facilities, pubs, eateries ect in and around the main street . Pretty with a pleasant park and walks. Good central base a few minutes from the moterway but couldn't see or hear it. Friendly people and no shortage of parking in the centre.

    A lovely hotel in the heart of Moffat, our room had a separate sitting room with a large TV, the bedroom was a good size with plenty of storage and a good sized bathroom. We ate in the bar/restaurant one night and there was plenty of choice with daily specials and the food was delicious. Same with the breakfast, the full was great quality and well cooked.

    The breakfast was excellent. Freshly cooked in front of you and plenty of it. John is excellent host and we will certainly be back again when we travel to and from family in Scotland. This is one of those places you want to keep to your self and not share with anyone else. Moffat itself is a lovely little town and the parking is free!

    Stopped here several times either on the way to the north of Scotland or on the way back. The hotel really caters for bikers and the Staff are fantastic. Brilliant food nice beer and great hosts what more can you want.
