Know the town quite well & delighted to see that many of the shops that were once empty are now filling up with independent bookshops and good bakers, great Mexican restaurant & fabulous fish options (as one would hope) on offer at most pubs. Take the time to visit the tropical Morrab Gardens with its own private library (one of the few remaining in the country). Lido or swimming off Battery Rocks - Penzance is definitely on the up and a great choice to stay when exploring Penwith.
Lovely Cornish coastal town with plenty to see. Excellent base for exploring, nearby must sees; St Michael’s Mount, Penlee Gallery, coastal paths, Minack Theatre, Sennen Cove, Land’s End. I walked there this visit from Lelant completing the ‘St Michael’s Way’ micro camino, which was delightful, if not sometimes badly signposted on occasion... I stayed at EZ PZ hostel, which was absolutely fab and £22 a night including basic breakfast. The A1 bus is £13 for day explorer, you can do plenty during one day. Town has advanced in appeal over recent years, better restaurants and feels more vibrant. Maybe growing art scene overspill from busy St Ives, which has become to touristy for me these days. Love Penzance!
I was expecting a much more picturesque place. Penzance didn't meet my expectations. The area of the harbor looked quite industrialized and not very inviting. Also the commercial area of the city wasn't very interesting. Only few shops, much less than I expected. If I was visiting the area in the future I would rather stay to Mousehole village instead of Penzance.
We drove to Penzance, which was a mistake over crowded and narrow roads. We did find some very nice places to eat and stay, but much of the town has seen better days. I'm happy to say I've been there, but once was enough. St. Ives was crowded, but had a "kept up" feel to it.
Penzance is not a cute Cornish village it is a fairly large town. The main street of the town centre is the same as any other town in the country same shops etc. However, the rest of the town is very nice with some nice independent shops, parks, museums etc. The seafront is long and on the whole good for a pleasant walk. You can walk to Mousehole in one direction or Marazion in the other, both are very easy walks. All the people that we met were very friendly and helpful. There are some nice looking restaurants but we didn't use them. However, would recommend the Admiral Benbow for pub grub or the Luggers hotel for something a bit more a la carte, or a carvery which is served everyday.
Penzance is close to other great towns, is wonderful to walk around, great photo opportunities, bike rides, boat rides... What an adventure. Great pub near the union hotel, main street has great pasties. Take a trip to st ives and find great eclectic artsy stores

I stayed 8 nights in a female dorm and this place is fabulous. Very clean, great kitchen with eating area and another common room also. The owner is friendly, helpful and professional. Clever system for storing your foodstuffs. Other guests were interesting. Great location, less than 10 min walk to city centre and bus stop to Land's End in the street. I felt very safe as a solo female traveller. I would definitely stay here again if I go return to penzance.

Spacious and roomy with everything you need and lots of helpful information. Being outside Penzance was great too as we felt more in the country. The White Hart - pub a short walk up the hill) is good and has lots of old, unusual features - well worth going to. I wished we had booked here for longer - so much to see and a really relaxing environment. Did I mention the view of St Michael Mount from the window?

Our stay was absolutely fabulous! The premises were very clean, service was excellent and the staff were fantastic!! The food was excellent. Nigel is an excellent cook. I would highly recommend Kings Arms!! It is located in the beautiful village of Paul, which is located just outside of Penzance. You just have to stay there! Use it a base to see all there is in that end of Cornwall.

Beautiful building, fantastically helpful and friendly, informative staff. The breakfast had masses of choice and was of excellent quality. The room was large, modern, well equipped, immaculate and had a double sea view. Large bathroom and a very powerful shower. We stayed in 3 separate Cornish hotels this week and the Penzance was by far the superior in terms of quality and value.

This B&B was a great find. The owner was very accommodating, and friendly. The ensuite room was a great size, clean and comfortable with a great bay window to enjoy a night cap! Breakfast was delicious, it’s in a central location to Penzance and parking is found along the street, but get there early as it can fill up. We would stay here again on our next Cornwall trip!

This property is unreal! So original and well cared for. A humungous terrain which is well gardened! Everybody around accomodates you with a smile, a perfect welcoming and a nice tour around. Car is parked at your door and out of sight in a inner court yard. Room has every modern comfort: incredible how seemless this has been realised! Tim & Pete take all their time to answer every question you might have; and they know what they're talking about! It's a tremendous work of love and devotion and not evident in these times were life is so hasty. It's a stunning expeirience you won't forget!
