We did not like Ermoupouli - frantic, chaotic and dangerous, impatient drivers just like all over Greece and parking is difficult. We did like the architecture of the city but the shipyards really do spoil the harbour. In hindsight we should have booked accommodation at Galissos and after driving there for lunch at Avli Taverna we felt it was a better prospect for a relaxed and less stressful stay. We drove to look for the Cave of Pherycedes but the signage pointed one way then the other. Why is there no attention to detail for tourists? They want our money but make it hard for us. We will not return to Syros and will instead return to the islands we have been to twice before and where we know what to expect. Ermoupouli is a rat race. Due to the position of Ermoupoli, built like an amphitheatre into the hill, it would not be suitable for anyone with physical disabilities. Most properties, not actually around the harbour at sea level, are not accessible by car. Steep steps lead up to them - nearly 500 - to the top of the town. Where there are roads they are mostly single track but two way and cobbled. All the walkways are lined with polished stone or marble which is like a skating rink when wet. There are no beaches in the town but a platform has been built out into the sea for people to swim from and another area has been created to give the feeling of a swimming pool. But both areas are only suitable for swimmers. Ermopouli is typically Greek and as such it is beautiful.Guest review byMargaret - 10.0

The room was spacious and located at the last (second floor) with access to the terrace which had a sea / port view! The cleaning ladies on a daily basis were cleaning the room.
