Stonehouse Court Hotel - A Bespoke Hotel, hotel in Dursley

This 17th-century Manor House is in stunning grounds overlooking Stroud Water Canal and the hills of the Stroud Valley. It has an award-winning restaurant, and routes for cycling and walking.

Wonderful, stylish blend of old and modern furnishing and fixtures in the reception/bar area. Great drink menu available and a nice surprise to find the bar open soon after we arrived so a couple of drinks before we took the short walk to the restaurant we'd booked for our evening meal. Room was comfortable with lovely views out across the lawn to the canal and Cotswold hills beyond. Breakfast was lovely and filling, and varied, though having just come back from Amsterdam, it was missing some of the broader continental options I'd got used to.

The Frocester, hotel in Dursley

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the pillows.were great. Lovely walk in shower, plenty of toiletries. Tea & coffee making facilities. Fresh milk in the fridge and bottles of water. The breakfast was superb. I had the full English with a poached egg, which was perfectly cooked. All the ingredients were freshly cooked and plentiful. The bread was made on the premises. The staff were friendly, the lovely young lady who served us breakfast was nice and very helpful. All in all it was a great overnight stay. Well worth the money.

Stinchcombe Hill (which is actually where our accommodation was) has easy access to Dursley, down a steep hill which leads directly into the town centre. Dursley itself has a good range of shops, cafes and supermarkets and is a pleasant little place in lovely surroundings. There are walks from the door of Hilltop Cottage directly onto the Cotswold Way with fab views from the Cotswold escarpment out to the Severn and beyond to Wales. We had a lovely walk at Woodchester Park (NT), walked up Cam Peak and Cam Long Down, did the circular walk around Stinchcombe Hill golf course (3 miles, beautiful views all round) from the door. Would recommend walking from North Nibley to Wotton Hill and back and also a visit to Newark Park (NT) at the head of the beautiful Ozleworth valley. We visited The Wild Place Project in Bristol with the children and my young nephew which was great. We had a brilliant cafe lunch at Woodruffs Cafe in Stroud (mainly veggie and REALLY good) and another good (more expensive) lunch at The Olive Tree in Nailsworth. The Farm Shop in Wotton is also worth a visit for fairly expensive but tasty provisions. Also worth a visit are Berkeley Castle and Slimbridge, Longleat and Bristol Zoo as well as Bath, Bristol, Gloucester (especially the cathedral) and Cheltenham.
