The Royal Oak, hotel in Etchingham

Located in Hawkhurst, 18 miles from Leeds Castle, The Royal Oak has accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

It is an old Inn located in a beautiful region. We made small excursions to Bodium Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens, and smaller villages and their churches nearby. The Pub in the hotel was warm and inviting. Harry Cox and his staff went above and beyond for us. We enjoyed generous meals, fun entertainment, and cozy atmosphere!

A lovely friendly place with plenty of room to chill and a relaxed atmosphere. A great place to use as a base for visiting the area. There were some good places for food locally which we also enjoyed, that were recommended by the owners. Not far from several big National trust gardens and the historic town of Battle as well as Bedgebury pinetum and Bewl water.

I visited Shoywell Cottage to work on a book, and found the serene surroundings, including a lovely garden with a duckpond deep in the countryside perfect for this purpose. Jolyon and Lawrence were charming and attentive hosts, as were their three quiet and perfectly behaved dogs. High quality breakfasts, energising company, and lovely things to look at made this a memorable stay. I can see why Shoyswell Cottage receives so many repeat bookings. My only gripe - I prefer s bigger teacup!
