A family of four stayed for 3 nights in a 2 bed apartment directly above the pub.
+ Superb quality of decor, fixtures and fittings, very comfortable and practical space to stay in
+ A very 'cosy' pub with beautiful decor and the log burners going which was nice
+ Extremely approachable, attentive and sharp staff
+ Very high quality food and beers
+ One of the few places we've stayed that we'd definitely stay at again!
+ Beautiful, quiet village locale with a lovely walk up to the 'three hills'

We were only staying in Saffron Walden because I was taking part in a concert at Saffron Hall but had a walk around in the morning. We were impressed by the number of independent coffee/cake shops and independent shops in general. The Saturday market had lots of interesting stalls, beautifully laid out fruit and veg stalls, fantastic pastry and cake stall with long queues. Lovely examples of old properties with pargetting. We could have spent longer wandering around the town if it hadn't been for the rain! The Swan meadow car park was good, cheap and felt safe as it had CCtV cameras and good lighting at night. Very easy to pay for more parking remotely using the phone app.

Definitely worth a visit, good assortment of restaurants and bars and rows of lovely thatched cottages.
The museum is worth a visit too.
We were just a short walk away from Audley End where we attend a concert.

Saffron Walden is a very pleasant small town with a good market in the main square on the day we visited. It is worth visiting the Bridge End Gardens, the small Fry Gallery and its large church. There was plenty of choice for lunch, we had excellent value and flavours at Chater's. Choices in the evening are fewer, but we had a good meal at our hotel, the Cross Keys.

A great market town with plenty of cheap parking and everything walkable. We only stayed one night but could happily have stayed 2 or 3 days. People were very friendly and great pubs. Lots of interesting (historic) properties to view.

It’s quite a small town, so it’s very easy to explore on foot. There is some really old & very beautiful architecture, as well as a story-book castle ruin, and nearby grand Manor House (Audley End).
There are lots of places to grab a coffee, or a meal (the fish & chip shop on the main road is excellent!), and there are some quirky shops, and some really good quality charity shops, too!
Lots of interesting nooks and crannies... a really lovely town.
Easy access to frequent buses, and not far from Audley End station.

Once we found this little gem it was excellent value for money. Accommodation was beautiful spotless would definitely go back to appreciate it. Family were so helpful and friendly couldn’t have done enough for us. Want to go back just to relax taking transport with us to explore more
The Oast House is super comfortable and has all the modern amenities anyone could expect while retaining the essential quirkyness of an Oast House such as sloping walls and angled windows. It is well located close to all of the amenities of Saffron Walden but in a quiet location. It is well equiped for self catering but within easy walking distance of a number of good restaurants and pubs. Dogs are made welcome and there are nearby open spaces for walks on and off the lead.
Good location within easy reach of the market square. Clean, modern apartment in a busy courtyard with cafes and beer shop. Cooking utensils etc. available. 1st floor apartment up a flight of stairs (not a problem for us) Useful parking permit for nearby car park. Comfortable bed and fan for warm nights
Saffron Walden is a lovely, historic town with lots of old buildings, interesting architecture, galleries, good restaurants and pubs and great market and shops.
Hairs in the bed dirty unkepted shower flooded coz the plug was full up with hair had to unblock it ours selfs buy our own loo roll. Light socket of the wall loose mats in hallway unstable for my mother .
3 strange men went into my mother's room with out asking to do work for the hotel even tho I said no as she is very ill in bed with cancer also stains all over the carpet our stay was £380 -2 nights for 4 people 2 rooms would rather had a tent ⛺️
We were greeted SO warmly and kindly by Tim. All of the staff are so lovely, and the breakfast (full English!) was truly delicious. Our room was wonderful with everything we could have needed and also a nice big bathtub complete with bubble soap. The hotel itself is a wonderful gem of history, and its location cannot be beat, right on the pedestrian only main street of sweet shops. Cannot wait for the day to come back again!
It was all great, we were there for Christmas and arrived to tree and fairy lights, a seasonal hamper and Christmas music. Very luxurious, perfectly places in a quiet and ancient street in the middle of Saffron Walden ... very close to the main car park. And great garden and nearby walks for the dog. The hosts were very helpful and welcoming.
Our stay at The Dovecote was perfect. The location is quiet and peaceful yet fairly near to Saffron Walden and Cambridge.
The Dovecote is clean and comfortable and has a great shower. Good place for a couple to stay. Parking is just outside the front of the building. We very much enjoyed our 2 night stay here!
The Cross Keys has everything one could want in a hotel… town center location, historic ambience, updated cozy interiors, our choice of any delicious breakfast on and even off the menu (free), and friendly responsive service, especially the new manager Simon. We will stay here again next time.
A comfortable and clean flat in the very center of Saffron Walden. The apartment was well-equipped and check-in and check-out were straightforward. It’s perfectly located within walking distance to Waitrose, Boots, many lovely cafes and restaurants, the market square and common.
The Oast House is decorated in a distinctive and cosy style with bang up to date kitchen and other equipment. The bedroom and sitting room are super over the top comfortable and I will definitely book again when next in Saffron Walden.
We were welcomed and shown to our room and offers were made to carry our luggage (which was light).
The room was small (The hotel dates from the 16th century) but very comfortable.
Evening meal and breakfasts were good.
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and has a great central location which is walkable to nearby sights and restaurants. Included thoughtful details like snacks and drinks in the room.
