Our flight was delayed so we arrived after the restaurant closed. The owner and his wife made us welcome, even though they had closed for the night. They very kindly opened a bottle of wine and made us a wonderful dinner. Throughout the stay their hospitality was amazing. The owner would not let us walk to the bus stop, instead he very kindly drove us all the way to Sidmouth in his own car! They really could not have done more for us!

The staff was very very helpful. They gave us a room with an excellent view along the Esplanade. The breakfast was really good. We also liked that it was shoulder season and had fewer people. It was really nice walking into town and along the coastal trail.
Sitting on the Regency seafront with wonderful sea views, The Belmont Hotel is one of Sidmouth's popular 4-star hotels. It is a short level walk from the town center.

This Grand Old Dame of English seaside hotels is in sparkling condition throughout. She is not cheap - but she is an excellent hostess and she will fulfil your every wish if you let her. Some may find her old fashioned - but that is a major part of her charm. From Martinis in the afternoon to sunsets over the sea in the evening, she has everything you need for a relaxing weekend. The sound of the waves playing us to sleep at through an open window was an added bonus!

Good choice of hotels and good shops in the town if the weather isn't great. (Loads of really good charity shops!)
Not many restaurants are open in the evenings (especially early in the week) so you need to book in advance. Myca, Pea Green Boat and The Loft are all good. Much more choice at lunchtime and good coffee/tea shops with lovely cakes. The Scott cinema and Marine theatre are both sweet and worth a visit.
Buses go to a few places if you don't have a car - and seem to be very reliable.
Jacobs Ladder beach and the Connaught Gardens are well worth visiting and are nicer than the town beach yet still very close to the centre.
Be aware that rocks etc can fall from the cliffs! The Jurassic coastline is amazing but it can crumble suddenly.

Sidmouth was a beautiful little seaside town with plenty of places to eat and drink!
Dog friendly beach in winter and lots of dog-friendly pubs/cafes! Beach is shingle/large pebble so not for everyone, but there’s a promenade/path the whole way along!
Lots of nice little independent shops & charity shops!
Parking gets very busy so you’re better off parking in the ‘weekend and walk’ car park slightly outside town - not far at all!
We visited in February but I’ve been told is gets very busy from May onwards.
There is a folk festival on the first weekend of August every year which I hear is great (but very busy)!

There's nothing there but the countryside.
There's nothing there but the countryside. Great for a solo weekend trip, but probably 1 week was too long. Especially when the accommodation was disappointing.
And from London, I don't think it's worth the drive.
We wanted a couple of days to relax near the water. The Bedford Hotel was just perfect! We had a corner room with a balcony overlooking the English Channel. I enjoyed hot tea on the balcony each morning. The staff was super nice and welcoming. There is a car park across the street with reasonable rates and free parking on the street if you get lucky. The room was comfortable with a couple of chairs, a soft bed, and a clean bathroom. The location was ideal for us and our tour of England.
My room was expensive for single room without a view. But it was August and folk week. Room was nicely decorated and furnished. Nice bathroom. Breakfast tables in dining are strangely numbered - you have to hunt for your room number rather than just choosing a table, which seemed rather confusing and old fashioned. Breakfast was very good , plenty of choice and the dining room has a sea view.
The hotel is on the seafront and everything in Sidmouth is just a short walk.

Lovely apartment in excellent location a couple of minutes walk from the seafront and the town centre. We have always previously stayed in hotels in Sidmouth, but this was much more convenient, especially with the guaranteed parking space and we would definitely consider staying again. The hosts were very helpful and addressed a small problem we had very quickly.
The hotel was clean and the staff were very welcoming. The location was perfect. We had a small balcony which was good for our 2 small dogs. The bedroom and bathroom are a very good size. The breakfast and evening meal was excellent. This is a gem in Sidmouth. We were able to park next to the room. The grounds are lovely and they lead on to the park and river.
Small but very clean and comfortable. I stayed on a b & b basis and couldn’t fault the food. My single room was perfectly adequate for my needs and the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The history behind this hotel makes it quite special and it’s location is perfect for the beach, the town and the lovely walks that surround Sidmouth.
Excellent choice at breakfast and dinner, cooked to order.
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff friendly and professional. Lovely garden with a variety of comfortable outdoor seating. Easy car parking, Covid restrictions were in place, and adhered to.
Fantastic hotel. Best breakfast by far in any hotel I have stayed in recent years. Staff were exceptional: cheerful, efficient, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Comfy rooms. Fabulous garden. Short, easy walk into Sidmouth main town.
The hotel is in a perfect place. About 5 minutes walk from beach and 2 minutes from shops. Rooms and shower were spotless. Owners and staff friendly and attentive without being intrusive. If we return to Sidmouth it will be our first choice.
Everything was great. A very cute boutique hotel. We couldn’t have been happier or
More surprised by all the thought out into making the stay special, from the hot chocolate in the room to the chocolates in the lobby. Courteous friendly staff
Right on the seafront and our room 102 had a covered balcony looking over the road at the beach. Free parking on site if you are early enough and the beautiful town of Sidmouth is literally on the doorstep as you come out of the hotel steps
The hotel was very clean and accessible to Sidmouth and its amenities. The staff were very courteous and helpful most of the time. The food was of a good standard and the views were beautiful.
The apartment was excellent modern clean and very comfortable with everything you might require in this spacious three bedroom location above and to the rear of the Kingswood Hotel .
