The location was great. Right on the beach and a nice little boardwalk. A park up the street for kids to play at as well. The kids club was great for the kids as well. Staff was amazing and super helpful

We loved Calheta Beach for its soft sand and calm waters, thanks to the sheltered cove. While not a natural beach, it offers a relaxing atmosphere. The area around the harbor boasts several excellent restaurants, and the beach itself has a convenient beach club for drinks and snacks. Plus, the affordable beach chairs for just 2 euros were a nice bonus.

Calheta is a nice village and had a big supermarket as well as smaller shops and a white sand beach. If you enjoy hiking, you will have to travel a bit because most of the hikes are not located in this part of the island. I would personally stay somewhere a bit more centered next time. Although this town also had a certain charm because part of the village is still rather old, it also has a main road next to the beach with some restaurants, a bigger supermarket, pharmacy, ... I enjoy staying in a neighborhood which is a little more vibrant and went on a lot of hikes, so that's why I would choose a different town to stay the next time I visit Madeira.

A small town with amazing views over the Atlantic and a public sandy beach. There is a museum of contemporary art and a sugar refinery, but we did not visit them. A very short walk on the waterfront. Worth visiting the Jardim do Mar, a small village with pedestrian narrow streets. We also enjoyed the dolphin watching trip. It takes about 40 minutes by car from Calheta to Funchal.

Probably the nicest place of Madeira, especially for those who love sunbathing, sandy beaches and relaxation. Also if You would like to travel to North of Madeira, it is much closer to do it from Calheta region comparing to Funchal.

Lovely small town close to the see, all accomodation are close but take care ... if you don't like to climb a slope, it will be hard because all the streets are uphill !!!
The sun is always present but not too hot at this moment so it was wonderfull.

The area is quite widespread from the marina and sand beach up into the mountains. Marina and beach area lovely and not inundated by 'cruisers'.
Some good local cafes and bars inland. Very steep in places. Be careful if walking if recently wet! Good connections by bus to Funchal, Porto Moniz (well worth a visit with its rock pool swimming), and other smaller seaside villages. A good base for a walking holiday especially if you have a car though some levada walks can be got to by bus. Has an interesting looking modern art museum sadly closed for maintenance on my visit.
The hotel is built around the restaurant, so as you'd expect the breakfast and dinner is one of the best on Madeira. Local, fresh and changing everyday. Perfect for foodies.
We travelled with our 4 year old and the staff where incredibly welcoming and friendly. For the 3 of us we had one of the houses, rather than the rooms. The house had stunning sea views from the bed, with a extremely private terrace looking out onto a waterfall.
We'd go back in a heartbeat
Astounding view from the garden. Comfortable and private, with well-equipped kitchen. A 10 minute walk to Calheta marina with a supermarket, beach, and restaurants (the path is very steep though). Zeza is a very friendly and accomodating host.
Reaching the place from Funchal by bus is challenging, I'd only recommend it to adventurous souls (take bus 142, exit at a nameless bus stop about 2km above the house, walk 20 minutes downhill along a local asphalt road).
Well equipped, cosy house with large outdoor terrace and private parking. House offers pretty much anything you could need. Francisco is a great host and is very responsive to questions. We didn't have any issues during our stay. Location is great, close to the Calheta beach/harbor with several restaurants and a good size / modern supermarket in walking distance. This is great for when you get back from a Levada hike or from sight seeing on the island.
This was such a great place to stay - the house is nicely furnished, very clean, spacious & cozy, with a terace with a sea view, the kitchen is well equipped & the hosts were super nice - we found a bottle of Madeira, a honey cake, some eggs, potatoes, lemon & onion - great to make a quick dinner without having to run to a supermarket, that was so nice :) It's a short drive to Calheta beach & other places of interest. We highly recommend :0
Teresa was very friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home. The location is quite and rural but not far from amenities and close to both beaches and mountains by car. The Calheta beach is excellent with a great supermarket and plenty of places to eat both by the beach and along the marina. If heading up in to the mountains, Calheta Green is an excellent restaurant to visit. There are also very beautiful levada walks a short drive away.
Sunset views from your balcony.
Local entertainment almost every night.
Good buffet style breakfast.
It's 1h drive from the hotel to Funchal one way.
Most of the visitors in the hotel were older couples. The hotel is quiet and no lounge noises late in the night.
10+ parking spots by the hotel. Another 5-6 on the street, and plenty more on the parking 100m away.
Great hotel.
Away from the busy city life.
Beautiful sunsets, every day.
The apartment has a great location with beautiful views, just a short drive from Calheta beach and is very suitable as a starting point for exploring the western part of the island. The starting point of many Rabacal hiking trails is only about 15 minutes away by car.
The apartment is modern and well equipped. Parking is provided next to the house.
Joao is a very friendly and communicative host, we really enjoyed our stay.
The best thing about the place is the hosts, they are super accommodating and very flexible. She provided ice cubes and had cold water at the ready for us, along with other goodies. Very nice interiors with a luxurious spacious bath. This was by far out favorite place to stay in on the island (out of the four total). When I come back in the future, this will be my first choice to look at booking!! Loved it!!!!
Beautifully designed hotel in a calm location. Several restaurants and bars inside, one with live music every evening and one beach bar. They serve tasty and well priced food. (considering it’s a hotel)
The breakfast buffet offers lots of different international options and an amazing sea view to enjoy the morning.
The service is impeccable.
Wauw! This hotel just overrated our expectations in every way! We had a full apartment for our own, with kitchen, bath, living room and balcony. Everything was so clean and the beds were so comfy! In the morning we had a delicious breakfast and in the evening you can sit on the terrace and taste the Madeira Wine!
The room was excellent (we had an end room with a nice view.) There was a great selection of sun loungers around the pool so there wasn't much stress to find one even if you were a bit late down in the morning. The hotel was very clean and friendly and right beside a really nice little beach.
The place is absolutely gorgeous and the views are stunning. We had a wonderful 3 night stay which was by far the highlight of our 2 week vacation in Madeira. I would recommend this place to everyone who's looking for a quiet stay away from the towns and cities.
This house is in perfect location for Calheta beach. Sometimes we didn't even put on shoes to go for a swim! And the views are amazing. Lovely to eat outside, under the shade of the canopy, and look at the mountains and sea.
The host Marco was very helpful and informative. The house is huge and has great facilities with two large patio areas with great ocean views for dolphin spotting. Very close to sandy beach and the marina.
Everything was perfect. The food very tasty and varied, the location very good, the staff very nice. Also, it was very clean and confy, a place close to a wonderfull beach. The view gorgeous.
30 minute walk down hill to the beach.
€12.97 for a taxi back from the beach.
The taxi service in Calheta is poor and buses are non existent so it would be better to have a car.
The best views of the ocean, well stocked cupboards, easy check-in/out process, didn't lack anything (blankets, beach towels, salt/pepper, a few coffee pods were all provided).
The bedroom had a lot of space and a bathroom included. It was clean. The hostel was close to a supermarket, a car rental place, a gas station and the beach.
