I especially booked a two night stay to visit Villa d'Est and pre-booked tickets to the gardens. Very disappointed, as on arrival at the gardens told by the staff no water in the fountains as it rained the night before! The front door is only steps from the center of Tivoli, a completely charming town, and a short walk to Villa D’Este. The rooms are superb with modern fixtures in a 16th century building. Sleeping under a 500 year old ceiling fresco by Zucchari is amazing. The proprietor Marco could not be more helpful and welcoming: guide and concierge just for starters.
