This Beat Generation-inspired boutique centrally located hotel is located in San Francisco's Theater District, just 4 minutes' walk from Union Square. I stayed in San Fran for 4 nights.
I was very disappointed in San Francisco over all. I grew up in that city and it has been ruined. It is filthy and over crowded, not the city I grew up in. I have no desire to ever go back. Very sad what has happened there.
It's always under construction but it's lovely none the less. Stay on the steeets nearby rather than venturing south where there are a great many homeless who don't seem too care about keeping the City clean
we stayed at the Westin. Staying at the Union Square really taught my children myself the culture of San Francisco. locals, tourists , you name it they are all in Union Square great hotel food and shopping
Great window shopping unless you have $$$$$$. All international brand names are there. Great food. Follow the queues. Mostly right these locals are. Not all the time. Lots of homeless every corner, and I do mean it. That’s a sad state of affairs.
overpriced in general, very rude lady. No late check out available (even for a fee). They charged me more than booking.com quoted me at and refused to let me check in unless I paid the additional money. There is no air conditioner unit (as in no FAN or AIR at all), no lock box, drafty room, dirty sheets, filthy floor, no refrigerator and the lock on the door was shakey. We heard mice in the night. Not only an awful experience, but the lady working the front desk made us feel like we were intruders. We only saw three other guest the whole time we were there and they were moving to a different hotel... they were MUCH more upset that I was. ***The Weston often has very reasonable rates! They are only a block a way and will treat you like royalty if you only smile :)
Lots of stores you can find anywhere else in the US (Macy's Victoria's Secret, etc.) but still worth browsing. Go to Neiman Marcus and look up at the City of Paris dome. For real shopping, DSW has 3 floors of shoe bargains.

We stayed one night at Hotel Beresford to enjoy the City Christmas scene. Only two and a half I hadblocks from Union Square, restaurants and shopping, it's at a wonderful location. Clean and cozy. Great value for your money. Parking tip: free street parking in outlying areas in the City and Lyft or Uber to the hotel. Way cheaper than any parking downtown. Walk to Venticello Ristorante for dinner!

We enjoyed the convenient location near Union Square, walking distance to shops, museums, and a variety of restaurants.

It's very San Franciscan with the classic shutter design. I like how this hotel is close to everywhere, both union square, financial district and China are within walking distance. And only 2 mins walk from the metro/Bart station is a plus. Perfect stay if you are not planning to bring your car.

San Francisco hotels are expensive and the Touchstone is a decent value given the Union Square location. It is located in the theatre district, surrounded by plenty of restaurants. Cable cars and shopping are a short two block walk. A good option for an overnight or short weekend stay (see below)

Hotel was nice, comfortable, clean and the room service was great. Location is close to Union square which seems convenient, however, the neighborhood is risky for walking.

Great people working at the hotel. The location is perfect in Union Square, lots of things to do in the immediate area and the cable cars are right outside the door.

Very nice hotel for the location and the price. Room overlooked Union Square. Housekeeping was very consistent. Overall, great stay.
There are fun boutiques in every district. Do the main shopping areas such as union square for brand names but venture around the city to find the fun boutiques and little restaurants that really make your stay memorable
Venture outside the most touristy areas like Pier 39 and Union Square - go to Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow, the Marina. It's much less crowded and you can even forget you're in the city
Yes, outside of Union Square the city prides itself on supporting small, local businesses so you can find plenty of shops that are cute and independently owned.
Prebook trips such as Alcatraz. Avoid using the cable car in the morning from Union Square or the afternoon from Fisherman's Wharf. Very long queues.
Union Square always has something happening that is fun to watch
