Close to a lot of nice cafes and shops. The staff in the subway are pretty touchy, and you have to get the clipper card to use public transport. The area going away from the wharf is quite seedy, like an open-air opium den with drug users injecting in public. Some of the cafes included taxes of ~$30USD, bringing out breakfast for 2 to $85. Better to ask ahead. Expensive place overall.
It’s a beautiful area, but just be a little cautious about the amount of homeless people… sometimes these people can be harmful, just put up your radar and be wise !!! Dont matter which city you go to on this Earth you always have to be wise and make safety your number one priority!!!!
Union Square is right in the heart of San Francisco with lawns, steps and trees. A perfect square amongst expensive hotels and Macy's store. Nice to sit and eat lunch and watch the passing parade. Also the cable car goes up the side street of Union Square.
It feels very run down and really scruffy. It’s not the best part of the city and there are so many vagrants which can feel very intimidating when they shout at you, I know it’s not their fault but it does become scary especially at night time.
We went for the pride parade. This was a very moving experience and I don't regret going. What was concerning is the security. I was nervous the whole time due to the crowds and lack of police visible. It took over two hours in line to get into the actual celebration event. This was a nightmare. Way too over crowded and unorganized. Not enough ways to get in and out. For an event this big there it should have been better planned for.
San Francisco has become one of the dirtiest cities I have ever lived in and visited. The homeless situation, drugs and crime make it a grim place to be in. The smell of urine and weed is with you at every turn and I could not wait to leave the place.
Excellent customer service from beginning to end. The attentive front desk staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay, and we did! Dining staff was also lovely and the included breakfast and happy hour were more than I expected. The memorial portion of the hotel is truly special, with dedications to brave Marines around every corner. Location is spot on too, with many restaurants up and down the street and walkable Chinatown, Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf. This hotel is a treasure to the city and a great value to boot!
Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful staff makes the Beresford Arms a wise choice in the Bay Area. Clean, spacious rooms, great city views, in a location that is full of things to do, restaurants galore; Union Square, Chinatown, Nob Hill and North Beach neighborhoods are within easy walking distance. We’ve stayed at both Beresford properties and they are our go-to hotels when staying in San Francisco!
Hotel location was ideal for our San Francisco experience. Short walking distance to the pier and other sites of interest. A couple of blocks from the bus stops for easy transport to other locations such as North Beach, Chinatown and Union Square. $50 Uber ride from the airport (no hotel shuttle). Hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful with transportation and local sites/restaurants.
The hotel is nicely located in between the Financial District and Union Square - easily walkable to each. The hotel has very friendly staff and the room was clean & had a very comfortable bed & pillows. In addition, there are nice restaurants all around the hotel. I would definitely reserve again when back in SF.
THE HOTEL WAS MORE ELEGANT THAT EXPECTED. STAFF WERE TERRIFIC! THERE ARE A NUMBER OF FRENCH RESTAURANTS AND CAFES IN THE AREA OF SAN FRANCISCO. ALSO, VERY CLOSE TO UNION SQUARE, AND AT CHRISTMAS TIME, THAT IS WHERE WE WANTED TO BE FOR THE SITES AT THE SQUARE AND THE SHOPPING
Union Square, San Francisco
One of the best value hotels near near Union Square, it's a bit of a hike up the hill to get there but that's San Francisco for you! Rooms are small (but comfortable), toilet/shower facilities are shared but never encountered a queue and they were always clean.
Layne hotel is a very good option to stay in San Francisco. Very good located just 15 minutes walking of the Moscone, and 5 minutes walking to the Union Square, Ryan has an excellent customer service always pending on our requests. I will back definitely.
This is a nice hotel located near Union Square, Chinatown, and the Financial District. My room was clean and comfortable and a great size for San Francisco. The breakfast was better than expected. The staff were friendly and professional.
The hotel also hosts the San Francisco Playhouse. Currently they’re showing a chorus line, which we went and saw. But they have shows throughout the year in the theater is an excellent place to visit if you’re staying near Union Square.
Upscale hotel on Union Square, a fantastic place to enjoy the life in SF. Thanks for your welcoming, our room was a dream! This is the place to go and stay. Breakfast in the room is delicious, try it!
There are fun boutiques in every district. Do the main shopping areas such as union square for brand names but venture around the city to find the fun boutiques and little restaurants that really make your stay memorable
Venture outside the most touristy areas like Pier 39 and Union Square - go to Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow, the Marina. It's much less crowded and you can even forget you're in the city
Yes, outside of Union Square the city prides itself on supporting small, local businesses so you can find plenty of shops that are cute and independently owned.
Prebook trips such as Alcatraz. Avoid using the cable car in the morning from Union Square or the afternoon from Fisherman's Wharf. Very long queues.
Union Square always has something happening that is fun to watch
