This is such a lovely hotel -- it absolutely exceeded my expectations. Things I loved: -- The hotel is new (I heard it opened 6 months ago?) and it shows in how nice and clean the facilities are. I got a beautifully designed, modern room. I originally received a room facing construction and they were happy to switch it to a room with a beautiful view of the city. -- All of the staff was so kind, friendly, and helpful. -- They have an ADORABLE robot butler named Henry! The staff sent him up with a complimentary cookie shaped like the robot itself. He makes cute, R2D2-like noises when he drops off your stuff and asks you how your stay went. This was definitely a highlight of my stay. -- They give you a voucher for a free wine or beer to redeem at the rooftop bar. -- They have a nice cafe next to the lobby where they serve Craftsman & Wolves pastries. The design is so airy and open, and the cafe is very quiet and serene. -- Great location, right next to Oracle Park, only 15 min drive to SFO. The surrounding area is super safe and within walkable distance of lots of nice restaurants and cafes.

    Sadly Union Squares gone so downhill, tbh it couldn't get much worse. So many empty shops. This wasn't for first trip to San Francisco, regrettably it will be our last. The change in the last six years is massive. We didn't feel particularly safe there, which wasn't helped by all the signs warning you. Our first night there must have been 100-150 motorbikes and Quads all racing down the Main Street, with loads of the bikes pulling wheelies, this wasn't an official organised event simply a load of bikers took it upon themselves. There was one police car with its lights flashing but nobody taking an ounce of notice.

    Close to a lot of nice cafes and shops. The staff in the subway are pretty touchy, and you have to get the clipper card to use public transport. The area going away from the wharf is quite seedy, like an open-air opium den with drug users injecting in public. Some of the cafes included taxes of ~$30USD, bringing out breakfast for 2 to $85. Better to ask ahead. Expensive place overall.

    It’s a beautiful area, but just be a little cautious about the amount of homeless people… sometimes these people can be harmful, just put up your radar and be wise !!! Dont matter which city you go to on this Earth you always have to be wise and make safety your number one priority!!!!

    I was there for a SF Giants baseball weekend. location was excellent for Oracle Park (20 minute walk), next to China town, close to Union Square and about a 30 minute walk to Pier 39.     The size of the room was great. The bed was very comfortable. The room is quite. Water filling station is available in every floor. There are four elevators and they are very fast. The location is perfect, next to Union Square. The cable car rides in front of the hotel.

    Hosteling is a special category of “Dorms by Design”. If you like (or tolerate after learning the system) their safe & friendly world is great. But anyone who compares with private lodging or hotel will be miserable. I have to watch my $100’s so a $40 bed by Union Square is amazing. I checked in at midnight & made my own bed with sheets provided. I pulled off the sheets at 5am, showered & prepped my breakfast, left at 6am. Super!!
