Lovely little place for a weekend, just don't choose the bank holiday weekend, or when York races are on. We made this mistake and the city was heaving with tourists making the town Centre too crowded to enjoy. We had a family mail for a big group out at the Dormouse pub, which was lovely - great staff, good food and a lovely atmosphere in the dining room.Guest review byAdamaeUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We visited Leeds on the 21st -22nd December mainly for the Christmas Market on the Saturday day abs night. In a nutshell, it was a real disappointment! There were 2 main markets. One was very small - City Square. Basically, no atmosphere with a few stalls empty. The vendors looked miserable and though it was raining this was no excuse. The other was in Millennium Square about a 2 min walk away….but we were told that this had closed down that night! This one had the carousel which we wanted to go on and a big wheel with other rides. Closed on a Saturday night too! - seeing lots of families with young children being turned away was just awful. This was due to the weather we were told. It was normal rain and a bit of wind??!! We had travelled from Lincolnshire so we felt very let down. Fortunately we visited the Corn Exchange earlier in the day and again the day after - was very Christmassy with lots of independent shops and stalls - overall, my 17 year old daughter and I enjoyed it as we stayed on a lovely hotel (Marriott?) and did lots of shopping so our visit wasn’t a total waste of time. We won’t come to the Xmas markets in Leeds again though but Leeds is still a lovely city to visit.Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We went to the county cricket and the Stephen Joseph theatre - both excellent in their different ways. No-one would pretend that Scarborough is hugely smart, but it has an old-fashioned charm that draws us back time after time. Great Italian restaurant - Gianni's: highly recommended.Guest review byAlasdairUnited Kingdom - 10.0
SUCH a friendly city.
SUCH a friendly city. The city centre is vibrant and has loads of lovely outside spaces. Loads of independent shops and bars as well as small chains. Everyone was chatty and approachable. Plenty of lovely places to eat and drink. Plenty of parks and museums to explore.Guest review byKRISTIE - 8.0
Cute little town and easy to navigate.
Cute little town and easy to navigate. If you're vegetarian be aware that most of the fish and chip shops use beef dripping especially by the water front. We did find a couple of places that used vegetable oil.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Compact, calm town centre looks like it had been planned, with taxis, bus station and train station next to each other. Travellers should be aware that the staff at the train station are witless! Restaurants and shops reasonably priced and fish & chips excellent value.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Wakefield is the perfect place to stay while exploring...
Wakefield is the perfect place to stay while exploring Yorkshire, with great transport links and all the modern conveniences in a walkable town centre. People are friendly and helpful and there is always something to do or see in Wakefield, including great nights out and two wonderful art galleries. Leeds and Bradford within easy reach, as are two national parks, York for a day trip and many other destinations. It's a transport hub, so you could even leave the car at home. As a base, there is a real range of restaurants available as well as leisure activities and a famous night life. There's also an excellent range of places to stay to fit all budgets and circumstances.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom
