Everything! Friendly, helpful staff, a lovely little note acknowledging our anniversary, a fun ping pong table and work spaces. The rooftop pool and bar is a winner.

I spent 4 days in Porto with my wife and my baby. Day 1 great, day 2 we got sick with a cold. We stayed locked up in our room until the end of our trip. If it wasn't for that hotel, our holidays would have been ruined. Now we actually want to go back and stay at the same place. We rented a studio and it was super comfortable. Bed was great, the kitchenette had modern equipment, the shower was spacious and there was also a pretty big balcony. Actually we had a few dinners on it while our baby was asleep inside. If you have a baby, they provide a cot and a high chair and Portuguese people love kids in general (they'll wave and smile to your kid). It's super nice as a family. The location is excellent as well. The metro is literally a couple of minute walk and you can ride one to the historical city center in 10 minutes or so. If you come with a car from the airport, you are 15 minutes away. Pro tip: use Uber if traveling as a group of 2 or 3 people. Prices are similar to public transportation. Last but not least the hotel staff was awesome. You can write to them on WhatsApp at any time of the day about any topic and you'll get an answer. For us, it was mostly recommendations on places we could order from. Actually a delivery guy tried to scam us and the staff protected us, called the police and even apologized to us for the trouble. They genuinely care about their guests. This is the number one reason we plan to go back. And it's not only reception, it's also the cleaning crew (who spoke English just as well). Everyone is super accommodating. I forgot to mention the breakfast which was a lot. For 2 adults we had: a jug of coffee, a jug of milk, a bottle of freshly pressed orange juice, two yogurts, a bag of granola, 4 small breads, 4 pastries, two pieces of fruit, jam, butter, ham and cheese. We always had something left over for some afternoon tea break or a quick snack on the go. It was a great way to start the day.

It was a stunning property. Great mix of old and new - loved the stone interior and beautiful design. It was also a great location. Walkable to River and city but quiet and a bit more secluded than being in the center.

Porto is an imposing but exhausting city, currently disfigured by disgracefully uneven road and pavement surfaces, and by major improvement blight from the construction a new metro line. I certainly wouldn't go again in August. There are excellent eateries about, though; we ate and drank well. River trip on the Douro strongly recommended. Get out of town. Take trains to places Braga, Aveiro and Espinho. Good luck with the pretty electronic tickets that tell you nothing in print about which ticket you're holding is which.

    Hello Booking,

Hello Booking, Reservation ref:6437577226 Braga - Pousada de Juventude This message is to ask you to refund me. We left for the Pousade hotel and unfortunately the security guard told me that there were no more rooms available. How could you confirm our reservation and then send us to the Braga - Pousada de Juventude hotel? It was a disappointment for us, as I didn't know the cuntry. Please refund us. I went back to see the hotel manager, who apologised. I will not be able to give a satisfaction rating if you do not refund me. Thank you. Romuald Malonga

Room had dated brown furniture , not enough space between bed and dressing table I stubbed my toes twice. No kettle with tea and coffee in the room . I didn’t like the body gel sachets in the bathroom . It all felt a bit penny pinching from the hotel , it cost enough to warrant a coffee and a generous amount of body wash in the shower. The hotel was quiet and we had a good sleep ,comfy bed ,nice blinds. The location was the best thing ,didn’t have breakfast because we left before 5AM.

Beach at Esposende too difficult to swim in due to pepples. Other beaches at Ofir and Apulia excellent. Limited supply of restaurants and limitless supply of banks!!! Surprised by the obvious wealth amongst the Portuguese people with holiday homes here. Very few estrangers. Not for sailors. Good for families. Some surprising sculptures dotted around the esplanade from 1997 one in particular near the San Lorenca fort at Esponsende.

Not much to do, in my opinion there are much nicer places to visit. Nicer beaches with warmer water. Parking is a huge problem and the locals do not like even trying to communicate in English. I guess it depends what you like. Would definately rather visit Al Garve.
