  Exceptionally clean. Great use of facilities,lovely kitchen,dining room and garden. Plentiful free secure parking right outside in a little private close. Matthew the host is a very nice friendly chap, but leaves you alone to do your thing. My partner left his laptop, and Matthew immediately rang to inform us, then left it safe to pick up. Instructions for entry are clear and precise. All in all a perfect little pit stop to explore the area. We will definitely return( and I never stay ANYWHERE twice)

  Shared Bathroom. Although not a problem for us at all, it may be if the place was full occupancy. However,If you're normally used to hostels and backpacking, then this is 5 star!!

  The stories of Ushaw and the beautiful gardens were my favorite bit. Also thought St Cuthbert's chapel beautiful.

  Staff put a couple with an ambulant person on the 5th (top) floor, which in the event of a fire or emergency is dangerous. Lift questionable for safety, and looks like it had punch marks on the inside where it has got stuck before, but had not choice to use it. Room sea facing which would have been nice if there wasn’t a grubby ledge in the way covered in metal spikes. Heating was on - in May, making the room stuffy and muggy. One window lock was broken so wouldn’t open, the other would open about 8 inches but wouldn’t stay open so had to wedge a towel in to keep it open overnight. Shower head broken and wouldn’t stay to where adjusted to, so anyone under roughly 5ft 5 would struggle to shower. Also a small caravan style shower with a tray that took seconds to fill with water but over 45 minutes to drain. Didn’t stay for breakfast, just wanted to leave as quick as possible to be honest.

  The bedroom was small twin room, beds very soft and uncomfortable, but the bathroom was the size of a shed, and very old fashioned., wanting single beds doesn't mean you are old and put up with anything,, dissappointed!!
