Everything we needed for our trip to Orkney. A good-sized room with a private bathroom, ample off-stteet parking and a shared kitchen in case you want to cook yourself. A ten minute walk to Kirkwall and the ferry pier across a nice park and just around the corner from the major supermarkets. John was a great host and gave us some very helpful tips before our trip including pre-booking restaurant weeks before you arrive and tickets to Skara Brae and other historical sites.

Hotel is clean and modern. Rooms are comfortable and have all the items you may need such as hair dryer and iron etc. air con was a massive plus with the hot weather.

I love the charm of Holdsworth House and the gardens are beautiful. I used to spend a lot of time there and after 25 years, it was lovely to go back again.

It's just looking rather tired (warn, marked carpets and scuffed paint, in places). Also for £20 on top of the room rate, the breakfast was disappointing. The bacon wasn't cooked fresh--it had been left standing and the rashers were fused together. The white of my poached egg was all runny inside, so it had been cooked too quickly. Also, the sausage was really poor quality. My guest had cereal and when he got to the bottom of the bowl, there was dried on food from the last user! The bowl had not been washed properly. We raised this with the waitress and her response was simply that she'd take it away for us. I expected a far better standard, I'm afraid.

Shower head is in desperate need of descaling it was barely working in suite 10 and breakfast was a big disappointment the most bland scrabbled egg I have ever eaten no crumpets available which is a simple breakfast thing my partner's bacon muffin according to her was also not great nothing had been put out for us to help ourselves to had to keep asking the waitress.
