Good size room and ensuite with wonderful valley views. Excellent spot to depart from for walkers. Really delicious beef and ale pie and a fabulous rissoto, well done to the chef. Generous breakfast cooked by Will who is true hospitality professional as he also provided a warm welcome at check-in and served us in the lovely historic bar.

For tall people a larger (longer) bed would have been good, understanding that double beds are common in the UK.

Excellent location close to shops and cafes. The sun room is a lovely spot overlooking the garden. The beds are very comfortable. We arrived before check in time but the owner very kindly let us deposit our luggage and this was greatly appreciated. She also responded quickly and sympathetically after I lost the front door key.

There was a problem with the oven and I couldn’t get the range hood to work but perhaps that was my ineptitude. A set of sharp knives would be a good addition to the utensils provided. The main bedroom is very small so it was difficult to move around the bed which took up most of the room. It would be challenging for a really large person but was ok for me.

Pretty much everything. Room was excellent, with good quality for everything, from coffee and tea machines with coffee pods and various tea options, through to quality soaps and hand creams. Fixtures and fittings again of good quality. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.

Only very minor points, but when you’re so close to getting to 100% it’s worth noting. 1st night/morning the hot water had an issue, so showered in just about lukewarm water, I overheard that they had an issue with the water system. To be fair, the shower was excellent the following morning. Car park is excellent, but very tight to get in and out of, so quite a struggle for bigger cars, having certain customers parking (abandoning) cars within the entrance area to the car park is definitely a thing that needs clamping down on. Having stayed at a similar hotel the night previous, they had an excellent scheme where if you didn’t have your room serviced, they gave you a voucher for a drink at the bar, this idea could also be applied for system failure such as the water issue? Just a thought.

Excellent location, very quiet and the food was very good. Had dinner and breakfast and both were delicious. Room was lovely and quiet and spacious. Enjoyed walking around the town and had a peaceful stay. Lovely building and had a very comfortable bed.

Very central in Durham, perfect for visiting our son at uni. Restaurant was lovely, beautiful room and delicious food. Very impressive interiors, the main stairway is gorgeous.

Our room was lovely but there was a loud (kitchen?) fan that rumbled away until quite late and then started up again quite early. It didn’t spoil the enjoyment of the stay.

The flat is comfortable, clean, modern in a great location. The heating was not working initially but this was fixed promptly.

The kitchen sink is a little difficult to use, the hot water pressure in the tap is very high and the tap needs to be full on to get the water to run hot - sometimes this creates a bit of a mess! This can be partly remedied if you remember to run the bathroom tap at the same time.
