The hotel fitted our requirements for a one night stay in Jedburgh. We did not use the onsite restaurant facility as we wanted to eat out, but the menu and venue looked reasonable. They did not have staff to offer breakfast in the dining room but the hotel provided a small fridge in the room and supplied juice, cereal, fruit and croissant. Which worked for us.

First class breakfast, good polite and helpful staff in “the White heart”. I’ve known about Dartington Hall and it’s gardens since I was boy. So was not surprised by location and unusual accommodation. Apart from the stairs! I am now 73. That is not a complaint. Should have asked not to be on the third floor!

A hook n the shower room for the dressing gown or towel would be useful, but that is being picky.

The rooms were clean and although the one we had was not very big, it was adequate for 2 adults. The hotel is in a great location.

The food was good and room was ok while things were going well on our arrival and first evening and breakfast.

I unfortunately fell and broke my arm on our first full day of a 3 night stay and asked the hotel for some help or support as the bed was too small. I wanted a mattress or something to just allow us to sleep. They did say they would look for an alternate room but almost instantly said none was available. This was fair enough I just wanted some help to sleep as I was in considerable pain. We asked if they had a camp bed but told they did not have any. We were given 1 thin single duvet so 1of us could sleep on the floor. (In the morning we did see a fold up bed being taken to another room but we were not even offered the mattress from this even if the bed was only for children). We sadly did not sleep and next morning asked if we could shorten our stay by a day as I could not stand another night in pain. They said that we would be charged for the full 3 nights including breakfast and made no compromise at all. It was such poor service that we were really upset. It was really disappointing as with no support we really had no option but to lose 1/3 of our money and go home a day early... We did reach out to the hotel both when we were there despite being pretty upset and in a lot of pain and again once we arrived home, before making this review. But neither time did they appear to care in either of their responses. So in summary it's a nice place as long as you don't fall or become ill. Additional info following response from hotel : To be clear we were told there was no option offered around the hotel trying to resell our room, when we asked at breakfast which was before checkout time. There was no offer to take cost of breakfast off, despite us asking as we were told that the food that we had not yet ordered was already purchased. There really was no care or consideration taken. I understand it is a small independent hotel, but the lack or customer care, was a very sad disappointment on what should have been a lovely (wedding anniversary) weekend

No iron or ironing board, An expensive deposit which takes far to long to get back. Bugs scurrying around kitchen floor Overly complex and manual process to obtain access fob and key.

the mice throughout the night, the 4 flights of stairs you have to climb with no warning, the bed sheets too small for the bed, the holes in the ceiling, the unfinished skink, the smashed tiles, the broken window, the useless curtains, the dirty walls and the abysmal staff. after I explained the issues they told booking.com that we never showed up. DO NOT STAY HERE.
