We had an exceptional stay at the property. The cottage was lovely with plenty of space and a garden. The facilities were clean and it was pretty quiet throughout the whole week. The location within Wivenhoe was perfect- it's close to the river, the train station (for easy access to London) and other facilities. A relaxing holiday stay.

The Plough is in a great location, within easy walking distance of the town centre facilities. There is plenty of parking at the rear of the hotel. The member of staff who checked us in was friendly, helpful and explained all we needed to know. The room was small but clean and comfortable.

The reception area closes early, so after a certain time in the evening, access is via a fire escape at the rear of the building. It was okay for us, but would not be suitable for anyone who couldn't manage narrow, steep steps. The hotel wasn't doing breakfasts. Again this didn't bother us, but might be an issue for others.

The best part of our experience was the staff, the housekeepers were always super helpful, staff at the reception was extremely helpful and they were even able to check us in before time. The rooms are tight but good for a short stay.

You can hear the cars on the outside and hear people on the above floor, when you take a shower if you don’t open the window it’s very steamy. Overall very good
