We were lucky to be at The Calverley when the sun was shining so were able to enjoy sitting outside on the patio or in the gardens to enjoy afternoon drinks. The rooms were clean. The bar had a decent selection of beer and lager.

At breakfast, only juices, tea, coffee etc were available for self-service and, when items ran out, it took too long to fiind a staff member to provide more. It appeared that the restaurant was understaffed for breakfast. Unfortunately, cooked breakfasts took approx. 30 mins to arrive, at which time other ordered items (eg youghourts, croissants) were also delivered to the table with not enough space to accomodate all the plates. Correctly cooked poached eggs seemed to be a challenge and raw spinach (not sweated) a with poached egg dish also seemed a bit strange. We had room 14 for 2 nights. On the first night and morning there was a faint smell of sewers which we thought might be from outside as we had windows wide open. On the second night and particularly the second/last morning the smell was much stronger and more obviously coming from our en-suite. When reporting this to a member of the cleaning staff I was surprised to find out that it had been known about before our arrival and she thought it had been fixed! This is quite a big property which would benefit from a lift.

It was in an ok location for what we were doing. We liked that you can decide the room temperature via thermostat. Had we not been guests nor tried the food, we would have probably liked the pub.

This is absolutely not a 4* Hotel. The „reception“ was a noisy pub that you could hear very loudly in the room until it closes. The beds are not kingsize, but 1,40m broad. The maid didn’t come daily as promised and the garbage bin nor the toilet paper were enough for that frequency. The Breakfast is not worth it at all. The portion sizes were small small small and there was a hair in my food several times. To be fair, I did not tell the staff about the hair to not be rude. However, it shouldn’t even have happened once. Overall the hotel was just a big disappointment. We were expecting a nice fancy 4* Hotel instead we got a Hostel with private rooms. The bathroom was not all that clean either unfortunately. I did not like that there was no safe for our travel documents nor a hairdryer. You can also hear all the doors slam shut at all hours of the night and the day. We were so surprised at the state of the hotel that we thought about checking out immediately and switching to an actual 4* Hotel.

I did not like the bed, it was very uncomfortable pillows were flat. The breakfast was poor. However the member of staff was warm and welcoming. There were lots of problems with the buildind and decorating that meeda attention. Not staff fault.

Loud humming noise all night from downstairs as was staying over the top of the bar area. Had to put earplugs in.
