The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

When guests stay at the property they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff are and more.

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

The location, and the individual character of the hotel, it was clearly not part of a hotel chain, staff were great, we would definitely stay again

Our family room a little small for 4 people

We liked the hotel and that it had parking. The pool jacuzzi and gym were excellent.we also used the spa facilities, which were also excellent.

We had dinner the first night, which was overpriced, and not the best food we've tasted didn't finish it. So they missed out as we ate out the rest of our stay.

The Bear is in a good location and we had lunch in their restaurant which was delicious and good value. The staff were also friendly.

I asked through Booking.com if we could have a cab booked (in March) to and from on Saturday night for our stay on May. I received a confirmation from booking.com on email, to say “ We are pleased to let you know that the accommodation has confirmed they will be able to arrange this for you. There will be no extra charge for this request.” I didn’t go back to booking.com to check until the day before the visit where I found a message to say they didn’t do that and a list of numbers to call to book my own taxis. Needless to say with so little notice the majority of local firms were fully booked or over £100. I haven’t ever come across a pub or hotel that is unwilling to book taxis for their customers. On arrival, we were pleased to be told our room was free ahead of the 2pm check in time. However, though the bedroom was clean, the bathroom had not been cleaned between guests with the loo in a particularly revolting state. The lady on reception was very apologetic and quick to come up to sort it herself. The duvets are synthetic - this is personal preference but it was likely sleeping wrapped in plastic. Hot room though we were brought a fan after the first was completely ineffective.

Was very disappointed when we turned up and the carpark had spaces but the electric car charging spaces was taken by none electric cars so we couldn't charge our car. Also I would of liked to be shown around as I couldn't see any way out to the back

Fantastic old building
Negative section of review
Leaky shower, bathroom had a wet plywood floor, shame they don't care about this historical building and let it degrade. Strong smell of wet and damp.
