I had read the good reviews this hostel gets but was still impressed. The people running it are very friendly and helpful; made sure all was well and were easy to access. Our room was larger than expected and very comfortable; everything was well cleaned including communal spaces like the bathrooms on each floor, the breakfast room and the kitchen. The hostel is basically next to the castle so could not be more central; its location is really good for seeing the tourist highlights of the town and had some great views of the coast nearby. The breakfast is self-served with a range of cereals, fruit and toast; the self-served nature of it worked well for us. The fridge is also communal, so you can store something else there if you cannot eat the provided food. There's also a living room well stocked with books and games: we didn't use this but I imagine it would be very useful for larger groups or those with kids.

Great, compact apartment in gorgeous Melrose. Very comfortable and the substantial welcome hamper was a welcome surprise - thank you!. Walking distance to everything in town and parking very easy just behind. One bathroom upstairs and one downstairs.

Layout was great and the internal layout made excellent use of the space . Spacious for a town apartment and in another location would add to the wow factor.. General decor very good and felt very homely. Bathrooms more than adequate and very clean.

The bed in the second bedroom was small, soft, Very noisy with music from pub, would not have been able to sleep with the window open. Was not mentioned in the general description ( only the package after booking) about stairs outside which were challenging. The parking was poor, the 1 hour parking was outside the lounge but a long way from the entrance starcase. Trying to park during the day was a no-go. The sofa bed was really uncomfortable to sit on and even with this only enough seating for 3. The table in the lounge had issues with the extensions and 2 of the 4 chairs not really safe. Cupboard doors in kitchen were loose - such a pity that regular checks would eliminate all these minor problems. The decking outside is communal but rotten boards in places. Quite a good place to stay if you are fit, carless and enjoy town life - but if you have any health or mobility issues quite a challenge and a bit more honesty in the description would help make informed choices.

The noisy room next door to the kitchen and the noise from room above was awful all night never got any sleep ! Also the breakfast was cooked OK but not offered any toast and tea was just out of a jug was stewed and staff at breakfast not very friendly.
