  The hotel's location is great for a city break to Colchester to explore the historic town. The area has some good restaurants, independent cafes and retail therapy e.g. Fenwick upmarket department store. The hotel staff were professional and very helpful, being able to provide local knowledge, and practicalities like closing a stuck bedroom window. The continental breakfast was good with a fair amount of choice. Free and secure on-site parking was a big plus too, with the solid entrance gates being shut from 9pm nightly.

  Unfortunately the hotel could not in any way be described as a 'Boutique Hotel'. It must renovate bedrooms, bathrooms and public areas if it is to continue to charge the rates it is currently, and would need to spend still more to upgrade it sufficiently to be able to brand itself 'Boutique'.

  The towel radiator. Was left flat out the weather was boiling hot we could not sleep. Couldn’t even leave window open seagulls all over. Ruined our night. Paid for nothing. Ask at reception was told nothing they can do

  Staff all very polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Room was comfortable and clean It was very convenient for the Royal Botanic Gardens and bus route into centre is close by.
