Great looking building, ample parking, really friendly helpful staff and absolutely delicious food having 2 meals during our 2 day stay. We did not like the 1st room offered to us with what looked like a boarded up door raised on one wall which had folk talking outside it clearly audible within the small, dark and dismal room. However, without issue we were shown others and accepted an alternative one which was larger and bright and very quiet. The bed & pillows were very comfortable indeed.

3 medium sized spiders in the room in 2 days and a smelly sink didn't enhance the visit. Sadly this hotel, with great staff and lovely food let itself down by being stingy with the heating. We queried this a few times but were advised the heating came on at certain times (controlled by the hotel) but this did not help between those times on what were a couple of cold and wet days and the room got quite cold. The corridor outside was the same but other corridors nearer the reception and stairs had heating on outside of the 'controlled times. One response comment was "...it's an old building..." but we have been travelling and the previous 2 days were in 2 different hotels both far older buildings than this and with sash windows like this one BUT they were warm and cosy places in the rooms and communal areas. The bar and restaurant in Barton Hall were spacious and very pleasant places to drink and eat but again were quite cold so we needed to dress warmly for the visit.

We only booked for one night.we booked 2 rooms one junior suit and a double. A few days before our arrival I had a call from member of staff asking if we wanted to book a table for dinner etc I asked if we could come down earlier because the 4 o'clock book in was a bit late, and if we could book the swimming pool for 2 o'clock for the children. Yes no problem she said, unfortunately when we got there at 2 the receptionist said the pool was full and we couldn't use it till 4 she didn't apologise at all we thought this was extremely bad service considering we paid over£400 hundred pounds for one night stay. When the children were ready for bed they couldn't sleep because of the singer they had it was so loud again I phoned a member of staff she again was non apologetic just said it will finish in ten minutes. It seems not many older member of staff have got any customer service skills. Very disappointed with the bad service

The room looked very tired. Chairs all very worn. Bathroom looked nice from a distance but was really quite grubby when you looked which was really disappointing. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. Flat pillows. Such a loud noise outside the window, guess this was some sort of kitchen fan? So loud. This was our 2nd stay and we were quite disappointed, would question whether to stay again - it’s the location that would bring me back.
