Positive section of review
I have been staying and eating at the Old Parsonage since my college days, 30 years ago. The historic fabric of the building is a highlight. Decor, furnishings, bathrooms, bedlinen, are all outstanding—country-house casual without being frumpy. The rooms although small are superbly equipped and comfortable.

Two things need urgent attention: 1. Staff; and 2. Smells. 1. The staff are inattentive, disconnected and some are scruffy—the feeling is lack of commitment without a dedicated professional hotelier in charge. 2. The dining room is substandard. The food is no longer better than the related Quod—which does bistro classics with conviction—and service is patchy. And the smell: the odour of grease makes the establishment (at the heart of the hotel) smell like a fast food chain—deep-cleaning is overdue.

The hotel was situated in beautiful grounds and set back from the road.The room was spacious and modern. The bed was very comfortable and the en suite was very clean. We had an excellent breakfast with plenty of choice and very helpful staff.

The view from the room was great, the room was clean and very comfy but small clean but we stayed for three days and were told that they would not attempt to tidy the room unless we were there for a week or two I found that reprehensible!.

The breakfast kept running out and there qas only 15 persons they don't have enough staff to manage the kitchen bar and front desk . Apart from that my stay was great.

Very welcoming and went above and beyond. Allowed me to check in early ahead of a swim event. Close proximity to Ambleside and also to the start of the Great North swim
