A true ryokan experience with an exceptional food service. This heritage building is well-kept, dignified, and an absolute delight. There was no need to leave the building to have a satisfying bath—indoor or outdoor. I loved the private bath, and the overall tradition of the ryokan. The staff was so accommodating of our late check-in, took care to deliver our luggage to the station while we go to the Snow Monkey Park, and were attentive to our needs.

The owner is amazing! He is so friendly and great at explaining everything, including a map to the 9 public bath houses in town and restaurant recommendations. He made a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast for us. The private bath outside is beautiful - I wish we could've stayed longer. If we're ever back in the area we'll try to stay with him first.

EVERYTHING! The service was AMAZING, very kind people, great atmosphere. The room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. The Onsen was very clean and nice we could use privately. The best part was the dinner. I would highly recommend eating the dinner and breakfast, deliciously cooked, amazing ingredients and overall a unique experience. This stay was the highlight of our trip!

This is a true Japanese cultural and cuisine experience that was the highlight of our holiday. The room with private Onsen and private bathroom was exceptional and much better than we imagined for a traditional Raikan and the Onsen experience was worth pushing our comfort zones for. The culinary offerings were incredible (even if many were not to our taste) they clearly pride themselves on perfection, symmetry and are proud of their cultural roots. Some of their dishes have been presented to the imperial household and wearing traditional clothing and private intimate dining you simply couldn’t ask for a truer traditional & cultural experience at the highest end. The Raikan bus to the snow monkeys is only a 5 minute drive and they ask for a small contribution to cover their costs. The private Onsen on the terrace was an absolute treat.

I highly recommend this ryokan. Dinner and breakfast was amazing. Onsen experience with family was great. We arrived by car and Akira managed to provide a parking spot for us. The rooms were spacious and futons were comfortable for us. Heating system works great during our mid winter stay. Toiletries and yukatas were provided. While we were about to leave, he is assisting some guests to be dropped off at Snow Monkey Park which I think is great if you have no car.

Great location, in house restaurant for breakfast and dinner, traditional Japanese Ryokan. Despite being a tatami mat with futons, the bedding was extremely comfortable. Free bus pick up from train station as well as free bus drop off to Snow Monkey park. Staff were very helpful and provided lots of information about what to do and how to do it. Shared bathroom facilities were quite basic but OK. The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.

The staff were superbly friendly while retaining the unique traditional ryokan atmosphere. The onsens were beautiful and entirely peaceful. Both the guest rooms and the dining rooms were beautiful tatami rooms that when paired with the yukatas really made you feel the atmosphere at its most. The shuttle bus service to the snow monkey park and train station was also incredibly helpful!

Loved the traditional Ryokan. Cosy rooms with comfy futon style beds. We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. They supplied Yukata and geta to wear out to the onsen - the closest was only 50 meters up the road.

It was a very nice experience to stay in traditional japanese ryokan, room was like from another era, had a tea set and futons, but there were also ac, humidifier and fridge. We used an onsen, had yukatas, it was all very comfortable

Lovely hotel. Room is very big with an amazing view of the city and mountains. The room has a traditional ryokan look with tatami floors and futon, the bathroom has a nice little bathub. The onsen is nice and clean. The staff, even though they couldn't speak english, made the effort to communicate with translator, and were very friendly and helpful, and in the end even gave me a lovely gift.

Beautiful old ryokan with super friendly and helpful team; quality service (the pickup from the train station, the drive to the monkey park); delicious food and superb cappuccino. Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
