This was our favorite stay of a 3 week trip! Both the breakfasts and dinners were excellent and the staff super nice and helpful. The best bathrooms as well - facilities all updated with the best quality and without detracting from the spirit of a very old inn. We liked that the inn was a bit remote and in a beautiful setting looking out to the waterway and very picturesque old bridge. It was easy to see most of this small island and go for peaceful walks.

FAQs about hotels in Oban

Gateway to the Inner Hebrides

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.

The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.

Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.

Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

We were using Oban to access the Cal Mac ferry to Lismore, as my partner's dad is buried there. Everything went very smoothly and we had a nice sailing there and back. We enjoyed a couple of excellent meals at the Waterfront Sea Food Restaurant and ES-USK Seafood Restaurant. Enjoyed an evening of live music and a few drinks in The Oban Inn. Finished the trip off by visiting McCaig's Tower, with excellent views over the town, sea, and surrounding Islands.

Love this port as watching boats coming in and out to and from the islands is so interesting. Gift shops are lovely to walk round and we also enjoyed seeing the museum with artifacts from the wars as well as history of the town. We enjoyed going up to the lovely McCaigs tower overlooking the town. Spectacular views and interesting place to read history of

Oban is the gateway to the isles but is also such a beautiful and pleasant little town with much to do and explore. Something that is often overlooked but always a must for me is at the end of the day to head up to McCaig's Tower and watch the sunset over Mull, Lismore and Morven. A more beautiful vista you will struggle to find.

Best seafood, great views, lovely atmosphere, all the shops you need, all the islands at your door. Oban is amazing, not only because you can get to the islands but in the nature around is amazing my favourite town in the West Highlands.

The coastal street was lovely and lively with bars, restaurants and hotels predominating everywhere. Of this main street and the standards and views are quite difirent. Of course Oban is the hub to catch a ferry to other islands and of course Fingals cave on Staffa. or take a local boat trip out to see the dolphins and perhaps, as we did, manage to see the white tailed sea eagle too. Lovely Oban.

The views were fantastic from here. The staff were all friendly, and very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was very clean and tidy. The art work in the hotel was beautiful, and varied. The breakfast was great - I am a coeliac and the food I was given was of an excellent quality, and plentiful. It is only a short walk into Oban, and it was great being able to leave the car at the hotel and walk into Oban. We will definitely go back again due to the high quality of this hotel.

The room was nicely decorated, but the bathroom. We got a loch view, which I would highly recommend, as the view was beautiful. Breakfast was a nice selection and included in our rate. Hotel was about a 10minute drive into Oban We had our dog and the hotel was very dog friendly. She was allowed in the bar area, which we thought was a nicer area for breakfast (and she got a sausage in the morning which she loved). The staff said there was a walk round the back but we didn't do it.
