We hired a car from Cairn airport to travel to Port Douglas for 5 days. We booked the snorkeling tour as well as the Daintree tour, both were well organised by the tour leaders. The restaurants were great but very crowded, luckily my daughter has booked everything in advance. This is a tourist town with the population swelling to 4 or 5 times it's live-in residents, but that doesn't detract from the ambiance and vitality of the area. Everywhere you go there are people enjoying themselves, and there are places for every age group. Port Douglas is the ideal jumping point for travelling around with Cairns 90 minutes one way and Cape Tribulation 90 minutes the other. And in between you have Kuranda with the Scenic Rail, Sky Rail and the markets, Hartley's Croc Adventures, Craiglee, Mossman Gorge, just to name o few. And if you simply want to relax then go to the beach at the end of Macrossan Street and find a magnificent place to wander or sleep.Guest review byPengliiAustralia - 10.0

Port Douglas is a beautiful place with a range of great activities. A lovely, long beach, plenty of shops, cafe's and restaurants. The Wildlife Habitat was fabulous as was our visit to Mossman Gorge. The shuttle buses are a great and cheap way to get around.Guest review byFayeAustralia - 10.0

Lovely location filled with things to do. We loved staying right in the middle of town close to cafes and restaurants. A meal at Zinc is highly recommended. Lively centre with a mix of food and entertainment venues. Great harbour and easy access to barrier reef cruises. But beware many of the trips and experiences are based in Cairns and can take long coach trips before the experience starts. For our rainforest trip we spent 4 hours in the day picking people up from their hotels which made for a long day. Family of 4 with 2 teenagers so needed plenty to do to keep them occupied which we managed to do for 8 days (wife and I would've been happy with a couple of beach/pool days!!) I think I had 3 of the best meals of all time here, can highly recommend The Tin Shed, Courthouse Hotel and The Mexican. 2-3 day advance booking is a must. There is a pretty good shuttle service running around Port Douglas especially at night but unless you're staying at one of the big resorts at the southern end of 4 mile beach , try to stay within 1km of Macrosssan St to make it an easy walk to Coles, restaurants, bars etc. We found hiring a car from the airport was a great help, no need to book tours, we did our own thing on our own timetable. The cost was $600 for 8 days + $50 fuel, compared to just the airport transfers of $90ish ( x4=$360) then all the shuttles +tours. The Barrier Reef tours also leave from Port Douglas so no need to go to Cairns. Enjoy, we'll be back....without the kids!!Guest review byKevinAustralia

Able to get takeaway coffees downstairs in morning at cafe. Games area is a great idea & quiet sitting areas located around resort. We used these zones regularly. Free fish feeding for kids.
