Our stay at Vetera Matera was absolutely spectacular! This 5-star hotel perfectly captures the magic of Matera while delivering uncompromising luxury at every turn. The Rooms: We stayed in rooms 7 and 16 - what a contrast! Room 16 offers breathtaking panoramic views over the entire Sassi, while room 7 provides an authentic cave experience carved directly into the ancient rock. Both rooms feature stunning vaulted stone ceilings and impeccable design that seamlessly blends historical authenticity with modern luxury. The Spa: Phenomenal! The wellness center with free spa access for all guests is incredible - what a fantastic inclusion! The facilities are world-class and having complimentary access to the spa amenities makes this exceptional value. We also booked a massage, which was absolutely wonderful. The Location: Perfect positioning in the UNESCO World Heritage Sassi district. You're literally staying within history itself, surrounded by millennial caves and ancient stone architecture. Matera is an amazing town and needs a tour organised to hear of the history of the town and area is a must. We did an English tour with Seekers Viaggi travel Agency which was very informative and delivered very well. Questions were answered as required. The walking tour was at 5pm which was a perfect time - pretty quiet and nice to walk as the sun was setting. Matera is unbelievable!
Matera is unbelievable! The ancient area is unlike any other area I've seen in Italy. As many have said, no wonder there are movies made there; it reminds one of Jerusalem with its caves and stone outcroppings. There are churches and buildings coming right out of the rock! The room was lovely and large and with a difference, as it was a cool cave. The breakfast was excellent, probably the best we had Italy. The location is superb with everything in Matera being in easy walking distance, so no problem popping back for a siesta. The view from the terrace outside of the reception or the upper terrace is a great view of the old town - the Sassi.
