We loved this off-the-beaten-path pub and small B&B (just three rooms; book early if this appeals), In the heart of an a rural village known for iron and slate mining, this village is adorable and nestled in the outskirts of Cardiff. We found the staff friendly, particularly Adam and the owners took much pride in their establishment. The rooms were well-equipped, quiet, comfortable. Like old world pub style, we chatted with other patrons as though old friends. Would have stayed more nights if our travels allowed. Pub food and breakfast were delicious and artfully presented.

FAQs about hotels in Cardiff

The Pride of Wales

Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.

Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.

From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Center, shopping in Cardiff is fantastic. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants for a short rest or meal. Those by Cardiff Bay have particularly pleasant views.

Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Center. Another year 2,000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and soccer matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.

Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city center.

We would recommend the hop on hop off bus, tickets last for two days so a really easy way to get round the city ✅ The Edwardian and Victorian shopping arcades are beautiful ✅✅✅ Castle is good with an amazing building inside ✅ Gorgeous gardens beside the castle ✅✅ Museum comprehensive and FREE ✅ Cardiff appears to be the centre for Hen parties ! At 4.30 pm on Saturday all the bars were rammed with people drinking and large groups of ladies partying - super noisy - security presence so it didn’t feel uncomfortable

We stayed near Mermaid Quay. There were loads of choice for food. We went to a really nice Italian called Signor Valentino. The Everyman cinema next door had nice seats, really nice salty popcorn and table service for meals if required.

Location excellent for Cardiff city centre and stadium is very close you don’t need a taxi (you can see it at the end of the street). Nice host who helped us with parking and direction as the roads near by had been closed due to the stadium event. Local places to get food and petrol station close by for late night shop. Bedding was very clean, possibly new, good wifi and tv.

Beautiful flooring, design and spacious. In the heart of Cardiff Bay. It was only an £8 taxi into Cardiff City Centre itself. Host was very helpful. Instructions to get in clear. Beds extremely comfortable. The 2 sofa beds were big and main bed firm and lovely.
