Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. I loved Helsinki. As a lone tourist, I found it very safe.
I loved Helsinki. As a lone tourist, I found it very safe. Getting round was so easy with the public transport. I found it easier to get Finnish food at the markets, there was a range of restaurants, but many were foreign. Suomenlinna was so worth the visit. I got a 24 hour ABC ticket from the Airport and this covered my travel to the city by train, ferry to Suomenlinna the next day and various journeys on trams and metro for 24 hours. Brilliant value. Also pensioner rates are good.

We loved the library and the Music Centre and a wonderful coffee place called 'Roberts coffee' in the centre. It felt very safe and had interesting buildings to walk around. For me it was so bitterly cold and snowed twice - in April - and although I like snow I didn't enjoy the ice the following days. I need to travel to somewhere warm! This hotel was recommended by a friend and I am so happy I booked it! Will come back when I am in Helsinki again.
