We have been many places up North but this was the first time in South Sheilds however this was booked for the quirky hotel that is the Grotto.
Beautiful coast line and the people are so friendly, we went to a local pub for a cooked breakfast and yet again they couldn't do enough to make you welcome.

Arbeia is a fantastic free and very interesting partly...
Arbeia is a fantastic free and very interesting partly reconstructed Roman fort. There are still ruins to see the excavation but some of the accommodation and the gatehouse have been reconstructed to get a feel of real life. At Sandhaven there is a lovely park with boating lake and mini train rides. There is a lovely child friendly funfair next to the beach and ample free public toilets. When staying in South Shields it is also a pleasure to take a ferry ride across the Tyne . An all day ticket on the metro gets you free travel on the ferry . Both the metro and Ferry are good for getting to other interesting places such as the Aquarium at Tynemouth and Tynemouth Priory. We also visited The Word as they had children's activities for half term .

It's been some years since my last visit to South Shields and hopefully it won't be as long until next time. Shields is a great family place. The beaches are stunning and you are spoiled for choice for places to eat and drink. We only had 3 nights and had an 11 month baby with us but we managed to get to the Rattler, Harbour Lights,Ruhindi, Spanish Italian and my son and daughter in-law went to the Sand Dancer. Everywhere was great and the restaurant staff in all venues could not have been more welcoming and attentive especially to the baby. We also managed a trip to Marsden Grotto. Fabulous. Well worth a visit.

South Shields is a coastal town with beautiful golden beaches and a fairground close to the Littlehaven hotel. There is a Roman fort only a 20 minute walk from the hotel. Very easy access to Newcastle City using their Metro system. Great to visit castles in Northumberland or the Beamish site in Durham.

My mobility scooter gave me freedom to get round so I took full advantage of that. We went along the front from the Little Haven hotel
Saw the conversation stones then went along to the amusements and rides, about to open and staff very cheery despite the windy weather. We crossed over to the park and it was,
at this point we decided we had to return in the future and bring the young ones as,they would have great fun with so much to do. Pleasantly surprised at the number of eateries and the different choices of meals. Stopped at a lovely Cafe overlooking the beach for a hot drink before going back to the hotel.I would highly recommend South Shields for a break away

Use South Sheilds as a base to visit the North East...
Use South Sheilds as a base to visit the North East Coastline and towns. Sadly South Sheilds town centre is very run downand lacks any good shops and bars.
On the positive the beach front is excellent and well maintained and for the Curry lovers Ocean Road has many fabulous Indian restaurants.
I would highly recommend Cafe India and for Beach side drink the Sandancer.
Size of the room,
Facilities in the room,
Additional small additions to the room (cotton buds, makeup pads, sponge to wash cups etc),
Location - although Ocean Road is a busy road full of restaurants etc. The guest house being where it is means there was very little disturbance from outside,
The very helpful gent running the establishment,
Helpfulness of those at the Establishment,
Choice of tea brands,
Fridge in the room,
The property was in a great location, a short walk to the promenade and as we had a concert it was easy to get to the stadium by taxi. The staff got back to you via message or call as the hotel is not manned. The codes and access were easy to navigate and staff were polite. There was tea and coffee stocked up and overall I would say a comfortable stay apart from some slight niggles.
Lovely property, clean and tidy, walking distance to supermarkets, pubs (nearest 5 mins).Restaurants (ocean road),more pubs and town centre, sea front and promenade(15 mins).Would recommend using metro transport link (station in town centre) if you’re wanting to to visit other places £5.40 for a day ticket.
Brilliant quiet location, a lovely corner of South Shields, very comfortable spacious room with tea/coffee making facilities and a great view over the estuary. Good car parking, ideal buffet breakfast, good value, will stay again.
We were visiting friends who live in South Shields and the location of the hotel was ideal. Near the harbour and easy walk to the beach and pier. Also close to local pubs and restaurants. Very friendly staff. Nice breakfast.
I have stayed at the little haven loads of times.
The staff make this hotel they are so kind and friendly and take the time out to make you feel so welcome.
The location and the view is absolutely unbeatable
Good location. Very quiet hotel, no staff or any other guests. Parking available in the area surrounding the hotel. All parts of the hotel clean. Warm in the lobby and hall/stair areas, rooms also a nice temp.
A lovely little Guest House in a great location on Ocean Road. The hosts Lorraine and Andrew were really welcoming and very helpful.
If we return to this area, would love to stay at this place once again.
The location is perfect for a stay at the beach, especially with very hot weather. From the South Shields Metro station there is also a convenient connection to the city.
The ground floor apartment is great for the less mobile of travellers and very spacious. The location is ideal for a visit to South Shields and all it has to offer.
The clifton is spotless. Just stayed the one night but will definitely be going back. The hotel had a lovely modern theme with little touches of old charm.
