Right by the sea, 1st floor bar and restaurant overlooking the sea through large windows.
Decent restaurant menu with generous plates.
Good to have coffee and tea in the room which is very large by modern standards.
Definitely an historical flair! I could imagine Miss Marple having a tea there :).

Great hotel - couldn’t ask for more location wise. Bed was super comfy and the room was nice and clean. Staff were really friendly and kind - always happy to help with anything that came up.

Your hotel is in an excellent position for both Hastings and Bexhill.Good bus service too.We prefere the old part of Hastings...lots of quaint shops, eateries and history. But we also like the Priory shopping mall so all in all both husband and I satisfied. Will book for longer next time.Popped into Mcdonalds but the hotel restaurant suited all our needs.

Hastings has weathered recent years rather better than many towns. The Old Town area which was a little run down on my last visit has now been restored with many restaurants and the narrow streets had a friendly vibe missing from places like The Lanes in Brighton. The town centre is nothing special but only has a few empty shops. St Leonards seems to be its more upmarket twin although the transition between towns is seamless. The coastal area is varied including an under cover "bottle alley" and some good coffee shops (Goat Ledge being my favourite with a hippy vibe). It also felt safe with groups of people of all ages just enjoying being outdoors by the sea with some music. There seem to be plentiful buses to explore further afield and there are two funicular lifts to the top of the cliffs for a more scenic view and to visit the castle. Other towns on the south coast may have a better reputation, but I doubt that you'd get a hotel with sea view at such an affordable price and the locals are universally friendly.

Being a resident of Hastings for most of my life, The town like many others has it's up and downs, The area of St Leonards is peppered with bars and eateries as is the Old town of Hastings.
I can't recommend enough an Italian gem La Bella Vista on the seafront of St Leonards.

Hastings always has a lot to offer but going off season means a lot of the places are not open. But there is still plenty to see and do good variety of coffee shops restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. St Leonard’s, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within driving distance. George st has loads of quirky shops to browse in. In peak season the fair ground and amusement arcades are great for the kids. Highly recommended.
Maggies is best for fish & chips
Two bulls for steak. Or go to Bentleys steakhouse in bexhill for the best steak experience plenty of Italian eateries. And there are 3 great wet fish and seafood outlets at Rockanoor

We loved the vibrancy of independent shops and cafes in the Old Town, the mixture of fishing heritage and culture and seaside. Freshly made pizzas created and served with love at Monellis not to be missed.

Lovely seaside town for a day.
Lovely seaside town for a day. But one more day to do The Battle Abbey which is 17 mins train ride and very easy. A few nice restaurants like the Thai in the book shop, Ladle was fantastic and so was the Porters Sunday roast (the veg roast option was delicious). The contemporary art museum had two very good exhibitions, and the shipwreck museum plus the fisherman’s museum were nice to walk through. The local history house is very nice and worth spending 15-30 mins. The book shop (the hare and hawthorn) is lovely.
The house was amazing, it was a historians dream, we loved looking at all the artifacts and pictures around the house. The breakfast was fab, there was so much choice. We had tea and coffee facilities in the room, and it was nice not to have a TV in the room. The welcome was lovely and the host made us feel at home. We would definitely stay here again if we visits Hastings again. Easy to park right outside the house. Thank you for a wonderful experience, the photos do not do it justice. The hotel should be upgraded to a 3 star hotel
Room was excellent, clean and very comfortable. We had a Juliette balcony which provided great views of the beach/sea. Breakfast was great, the 20% discount was a wonderful extra. Snacks and evening meal were also good quality. Location made it easy to access Hastings or St Leonard’s when taking a stroll. All staff were very helpful and friendly which adds to our experience of staying at this wonderful hotel. We will definitely be returning.
The best place we ever stayed at. Spectacular location with a view of the English Channel, a gorgeous home filled with exquisite antiques, gourmet breakfasts, Vincent and Julian who were terrific and very helpful hosts and made us feel like family. It felt a bit like stepping inside an episode of "The Crown" with all the dreamy decors but without any drama....can't wait to return...we fell in love with Black Rock House and Hastings.
Exceptional design of each room - I don’t have enough words to describe my delight. And the rooms are spacious. Lovely detail: there’s a bottle of fresh milk in the fridge to add to your tea. The breakfast is also very good, and the presentation is very elegant. The staff is friendly and helpful. For dinner we’ve been to Porters next door (that belongs to the same family), and enjoyed the food and music very much!
Hotel in good location on the seafront within close walking distance to entertainment and local amenities. 7 minutes walk from Hastings Rail Station. Room, seaview with balcony, clean, cosy and inviting. Nice size shower room. Breakfast not included in booking price but well worth paying the extra for a full English Breakfast. Staff friendly and cooperative. Would stay there again.
The hotel is in a good location. many buses go into Hastings and to other places around Hastings. The railway station is near by. The hotel breakfast was excellent. There is a garden open to guests. I found everyone to be friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. I had a very enjoyable stay.
The Eagle is a well organized and functional hotel which comes with spacious rooms, a bar, plenty of parking and a decent breakfast. It's location is a short walk from the sea and a convenient base for exploring Hastings and surrounding parts of the Sussex coastline.
The hotel had everything you needed, i.e., TV, kettle & supplies, storage space (open shelves more than drawers) and en-suite bathroom. It is located on the sea front nearer the pier than old town but it's not far from the centre of Hastings.
it was new, spotlessly clean and central to everything in Hastings town. The hotel was in walking distance from the station and was there was a Tesco supermarket opposite and a Wetherspoon’s pub and a Yates pub just outside the front door.
An excellent location and the views of Hastings were lovely. It really was a home from home. Furnishings throughout the house were gorgeous and the kitchen was well equipped. Adriana's correspondence was excellent. We had a wonderful stay.
good hearing, but everything else is terrible. poor decor, poor bathroom, hasn’t been updated in the last 30 40 years by the look of it. convenient location, but is always the hotel I would pick last in Hastings.
The hotel was incredible, a really nice and well decorated victorian house. It makes you feel like you're back in the 19th Century. There are so many details, it's just great! The staff was really nice too!
Loved being right on the seafront. Hotel was a lovely period property with style. Room was large and very comfortable. 15/20 min walk into Hastings. Beaches weren't crowded. Would definately return
Clean, comfortable, stylish, and with everything I needed for a nice overnight stay in Hastings. Staff were friendly and informative, and I didn't lack for anything.
Tranquil setting, lovely house and the bedroom was gorgeous, big bathroom well equiped and loved the bath.
Great views over Hastings,
Breakfast was the highlight.
The hotel was ideally situated for both St Leonards on Sea and Hastings. The full English breakfast was excellent with a time slot system that worked well.
We loved staying in The Retro Retreat it was a decorated with amazing pieces of nostalgia. It is so well positioned to get into Hastings and easy to find .
