Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks. The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food. If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!! For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

    Great weekend destination.

Great weekend destination. Loads of big and little shops, cafes, restaurants and craft ales bars. Great atmosphere in town. On top of this the most amazing castle and wobbly medieval houses and Roman walls something for everyone!! Town centre easy to walk round and explore and topped off with a fabulous meal at China Chef!

You have to be fit as there is a lot of walking The hotel was half way up the hill and the nearest bus stops at the top or bottom. There are many buses which basicly end up at Osbourne road bus station There are numerous scooters for hire with i phone but i didnt see a main point of distribution just abonded scooters hear and there .

    Colchester is a gem.

Colchester is a gem. Lovely architecture and sights, good cafes and pubs, shopping and eateries. It's not at all dog friendly, though, which is a big drawback if you ask me. Come on, Colchester, Britain loves its pets!

As you can see from the photos on their website, the actual hotel is an amazing building right in the middle of Colchester. The common areas (reception, lounges, dining room) are lovely, really oldy-worldy, with beams and nooky rooms with a large wooden staircase. The staff did an excellent job making us feel welcome and tried really hard to do the best they could. There definitely weren't enough staff as the lady on reception was also helping behind the bar serving drinks and later became our waitress (as we stayed for dinner).

Due to the train strike by Greater Anglier (30 Sep 2023 to 04 Oct 2023), I had to stay in Colchester for a few nights for work purpose. When I checked in, I was greeted by Roland (the hotel manager). He helped me settle down in my lovely ensuite bedroom and enriched me with the history of Colchester. He provided excellent customer service for all the guests of the hotel. This hotel is highly recommended, and I hope everyone who goes to Colchester Boutique Hotel will feel comfortable and delighted.

It was an unusual hotel. It clearly used to be a department store or office that had been converted. No staff present on site and you collect your key from another hotel reception across the other side of the road where you would also get breakfast if you wanted it. Never saw another person in this hotel while we were there which is an odd experience. But it was a good enough room at a competitive price right on the High Street and met our needs.

The staff here were so friendly. My wife had to join me at short notice after I'd had a fall outside (not on the hotel property I hasten to add) and they were tremendously helpful letting her into my room, because I was asleep. A lovely friendly restaurant with tasty food - nice curries, and the bar staff very helpful - nothing was too much trouble. A really comfortable stay.

Cosy, comfortable hotel with period features within walking distance of the historic centre Colchester. Well appointed rooms. All the staff were welcoming and provided very good levels of customer service. Bar open in the evening. The breakfast was delicious. Car park on site was a little tight in places, but there was always a space available. Would definitely visit again.

Breakfast was exceptional with so much choice and all freely accessible. Room was very quiet but that was probably due to the thick carpet which was also in the corridors and made for a very quiet night. Bed was comfy and the room itself out excelled a comparitive hotel on the western side of Colchester.

Student accommodation made available during the summer holidays, located on the Uni Campus. As such, it is a bit bare-bones but good value for the money. Essex Uni Campus is on the outskirts of Colchester, dorms well clear of busy traffic. Parking and public transport on site.
