I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. So make sure you either have a late breakfast or stop in time to get some lunch in! :)))

It is a very beautiful medieval city close at the border of Tuscany and Umbria. It is definitely not an easy walk city as there are not so many flat streets. But it is worth it!
From Piazza Garibaldi, you could have a very nice view to Tuscany.
You find few parking lots around the city but from there you need to walk few stairs to actually get in to the city.
The italian ice cream, of course, is unbeatable. I can also recommend Cortona Bistrot. I think I have eaten there one of the best tiramisu.
The city is worth for couple of days' visit but the surroundings are also very nice (e.g. Lake Trasimeno).

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona.
The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona. Cortona is very small, I came in once during a three day stay. Considering that it was 50 euro to drive in to town I would have only came back in for another dinner if I was with a group. Be ready to walk uphill! I walked all the way to the top and then made my way down to eat. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the restaurant I went to but it was tiny with a family feel and the food was incredible

Beautiful, romantic, old place!
Beautiful, romantic, old place! An ideal experience - away from the crowds and chaos of top destinations like Florence, but at the same time providing every element of romantic and beautiful Tuscany and ancient Italy in general!
It is about 2.5 kilometres away from the Cortona itself, however, extremely close to Camucia train station if you arrive by train. We used to take a bus up to the hill to Cortona and then get back to hotel by foot which was really nice walk during the nights. At our triple room we had a spacious balcony, overlooking the nature of Tuscany - a really nice touch. The room and bathroom - nice and clean. In general, it is twice cheaper than the cheapest hotel in Cortona - if you are not afraid for a walk, it is a really nice deal.
We have had the pleasure of staying at some of the world's best hotels. At Villa di Piazzano everything exceeded our (high) expectations. Not least the staff - everyone (!) was so professional and service-minded.
And the food was amazing. In fact extraordinary. And while the rooms can be said to be a bit on the pricy side, everything else was indeed reasonably priced.
All in all a fantastic stay which we can wholeheartedly recommend. Not least at this time of the year (end of April).
Michele and his wife were very nice and super welcoming! The house and the garden are exceptionally clean and well taken care of! The garden is much bigger than it is shown on the pictures and the whole property is fully fenced which is excellent if you are travelling with a dog. The house is also very nice in summer time when it gets really hot in Italy, as it is situated on a mountain it is always a little cooler and there is a fresh wind.
Jeroen was a really lovely host! We arrived there at night and he spontaneously cooked one of the best Spaghetti Bolognese ever :-) He gave recommandations and booked the next location in Cortona for us - because his house was fully booked the next days. The room was very good as well. And the position of Casa Dreosti in Cortona couldn’t be better: Central and quite at the same time. All in all a great place to stay.
The perfect little get-away location! So many things to do on the property - tennis, table-tennis, soccer, chickens, geese, pool table, games, etc. etc.! It was so nice to do laundry too! The accommodation was spacious, clean and the little details done made you feel at home away from home - the perfect stay in Italy! Carola was so personable, welcoming and gracious! Next time we are definitely staying longer!!
You feel home immediately. Such a lovely family behind Locanda Del Molino.
The rooms are traditional, very clean, designed with love and that is what we indeed love about Italy.
Their in-house restaurant is delicious and try their other amazing restaurant in Cortona itself. 5 Stars! :-)
Oh and not to forget to mention the lovely pool. surrounded by beautiful nature and very peaceful. Perfect to simply relax.
Great location for vacation in Tuscany. The villa was charming and everyone was so helpful and friendly - such a lovely place to stay! Beautiful location in the olive grove close to Cortona town. Our rooms were huge and nice, there was also air condition. The pool is nice and the views are amazing. Perfect place to stay to relax. We strongly recommend to anyone!
Very charming hostel in an old nun convent situated in a perfect point of cortona, between the central square and the fortress.
The staff of the hotel is really super
nice. In particular Francesca gave me very good tips about cortona and was very very helpful and nice.
Highly recommended!!
San Luca is a wonderful hotel with the most amazing views of Cortona and it’s close to the main street. The staff there were all very friendly. I’ve stayed here before and will stay her again when I come to Cortona again. They have a wonderful complimentary breakfast as well.
The location was very convenient to the main plaza. The owner, Paola, is a gracious host and an exceptional Chef. Their restaurant connected to the property was an excellent example of the Tuscan cooking. Her Pici al Fumo is a local Cortona recipe that is a must to try.
Nice, clean and comfortable apartment. Very well decorated with smart solutions for everything, spectacular view, quiet area and good matresses. Simona was extremely helpful. Definetely recommended! Cortona is amazing place like almost everything in Tuscany.
these are the kinds of hotels I love most in Italy. beautiful and historic in the center of the city one minute from the main piazza. I highly recommend staying here. Don’t miss the large sitting room on the second floor. The staff is excellent!
Great Location on the main street of Cortona, large and comfortable apartment, well-appointed kitchen. Very nice that there was a turn around steps form the apartment to drop family off before parking the car outside the town walls.
The apartment was very clean and was well equipped with everything we needed. It was a short walk to the center of Cortona and close to restaurants and shops.
The host replied promptly to any questions we had and was very courteous.
