Very kind staff
Backpackers next room were too noisy that we couldn't sleep deeply. Ceiling was diagonal so we had to be careful everytime not to bump our heads whenever we make a step. Accommodation was located quiet close from the Kyoto station but even taxi driver had hard time to find it since it is in between small alleys.
Sleep in a Ryokan with good facilities
We loved the friendliness of the staff, the look of the facilities and of the house. The location is excellent, on a quiet street yet very close to main roads and to Kyoto station. A welcome plus is the bike rental service. Very pleased overall.
We were only disappointed by the fact that they advertise you will be sleeping on futon when they actually offer 2 thin foldable foam mattresses per guest! May we suggest they offer the traditional cotton/wool stuffed futon, which may then be topped with that thin foam for comfort, if required.
Friendly staff, lovely outdoor baths.
Rooms too small
Really japanese living experience, a tasty breakfast. Close to a bus stop, staff can speak English
House and the bedroom are too small, we got an attic room which the roof is too low for 180 cm height family member. The price is too expensive. The cancellation in booking com: "can not be cancelled" at the time when we made the booking ; in fact at the hotel: can be cancelled..
A taste of traditional Japanese athmosphere.
Location is quite far from the main station, though it wasn't difficult to find. You could hear noises from the people walking upstairs.
My husband and I stayed here for 1 night to experience a traditional Japanese style room. It was beautiful inside and very traditional. The staff were very helpful and the hotel was within easy reach of the Subway line.
The futons were very thin so we slept on two doubled up. I know the tradition are futon but we were so used to our western style room and mattress in Tokyo we doubled them up! Also there are signs everywhere asking you to be quiet at night and in the morning as the structure of the building means the walls and ceilings are incredibly thin, the staff also kindly tell you this when you check in so no idea why the American family staying in the room above us were so noisy! 1230 at night they were stomping about shouting laughing and sliding the doors so hard they made a crashing noise which woke us up a few times. Not the hotels fault at all just others being Inconsiderate and thinking they are the only ones staying there! lovely little stay but glad we didn't spend our whole week here as doubt we would have got much sleep due to the noise but great just for a nights experience.
I like traditional Japanase rooms
A lovely experience to stay in a tradional Japanese ryokan. The staff were super friendly and helpful in providing maps and directions to all the best spots in Kyoto.
Only disappointment was the actal futons. Very very thin. We only stayed a night so tolerable.
The Japanese breakfast is delicious - remember to book ahead for that! The free green tea is also yummy. All the staff were delightful, helpful and conveniently bilingual. We highly reccommend the kimono experience - best thing I did in Kyoto!
Some of the other guests were noisy at night.
Nice place to taste some real japanese way of living. Our son enjoyed the tatami a lot.
Unfortunaly a little far from touristic destinations. Kyoto is a Big city you need to get a bus to go to any destination different from the central station.
The room was bigger than I expected, and smelled like tea leaves.
Its a little far from the train station. The weather was pretty bad when we were there so 15 min walk was not so nice even though it's through lovely little pedestrian streets.
Good traditional hotel. Location close to the train station Very quiet neighborhood
Staff was really kind. and the breakfast was quite nice.
Location is quite far away from main station. it takes almost 15mins with your baggage and it's located in middle of village. so, you will need google map to find it.
We were after the traditional ryokan experience and that is what we got. The japanese breakfast was delicious. Easy access.
Very businesslike service, not particularly warm or friendly. We did not like having the rules spelt out to us as if we were children.
Great setting in quiet narrow street. Wonderful Japanese style breakfast. Bicycle hire from Oyado Sato, 600 Yen per day, great to explore Kyoto.
Value for money and the traditional atmosphere
The uneven stone steps in the bathroom
1.Location 2.Friendly staff 3.Public areas
We had the quadruple room. It was too small for 4 people plus luggage. No space to move.
I really loved how the staff there were extremely helpful. We arrived not knowing exactly how to plan our short one and a half day trip in Kyoto, but the staff were so knowledgeable, they recommended a few of the most famous places around the area and helped us schedule our time so that we can fit all in.
Everything was great.
Location was excellent. All staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. The breakfast was very good value and was delicious.
Everything was wonderful.
Is really very nice and the staff is young and friendly.
We stayed for two nights at the traditional ryokan-style room at Oyado Sato and four nights at their other property Ikoi No Ie. The staff is very nice. The location close to the train station is very convenient if you are using Kyoto as a base to explore nearby towns and cities. The kitchen facilities are sufficient to prepare a simple meal and save a bit of money on eating out.
The double room was quite small but it was very quiet - good night's sleep! The walk to the train station is a little longer than 12 minutes - more like 15 to 20 minutes depending how fast you walk. Their other property Ikoi No Ie was better value for money in our opinion because we have already experienced sleeping in a traditional home in South Korea for much cheaper price, but compared to Japanese ryokan prices Oyado Sato is not bad.
