really beautiful city. if you have time, you can spend up to 5 days with enough interesting sightseeing to visit. the traffic is heavy so I recommend to take buses or walking because uber/bolts can take too long to arrive where you are.
the best was a hiking from Sinta Palace to the historical center, really nice views

Sintra is a very pleasant city with a small but bustling old town. Restaurants are very good for the money. Parking would be a nightmare so don't drive in for the day. (our hotel had parking) Pena Palace was beautiful, then was dow to the Moorish Castle. but in my opinion, the crown jewel was Quinta Regliera. Make sure to get tickets online in advance!

Sintra is a beautiful town.
Sintra is a beautiful town. There are many places to see, but so many other tourists it is hard so some attractions. If you want to go to attractions you need to purchase tickets ahead of time and make sure you have reliable transportation to the attractions. Allow ample time to get to where you are going b/c traffic to the tourist sights are usually jammed with traffic.
Lots of places to eat and shop.

Historical part of Sintra certainly deserves a visit when you are in the area. In my opinion one full day will do to see visit the park and some of the palaces. You would start early so a stay overnight might be more convenient for some.Tickets are easily booked online and I purchased an audio tour to listen to on my phone. There are are tuktuk or taxi drivers around that can bring you to the entrance of the park from where you can walk to the Palace de Pena and other sites. There are several entrances. Instead going to the busy main entrance I took a tuktuk to the entrance of the Valley of the Lakes, a 45 min. walk away from Palace de Pena. It a beautiful and quiet part of the park and I took a detour to see the chalet and garden of the Countess of Edla, which I loved even more than the palace itself.
Visiting the palace involved long waits in line and walking in files through the rooms. Not my thing. The park is huge with a diversity in plants and trees, it has a camelea and a fern garden, just nice to wonder around for a few hours. Bring snacks and drinks if you want to avoid the waiting line for the cafeteria at the palace.

Lots of walking.
Lots of walking. Ideally 3-4 days to hit everything comfortably. Old Town is closed to motor traffic so rideshare, taxis, and public transportaion are your best bet. Rideshare works to the sites well but can often be a problem getting back
This charming boutique hotel is one of a kind. Sintra feels like a fairytale town and staying at this beautiful, tasteful, lavish hotel made us feel like we were royal guests. Our room was designed cleverly with no expense spared on the best quality and comfort. Breakfast was sumptuous and freshly made. The location is perfect, with just a short walk to the historical center, cafes, restaurants, bars, castles and palaces. The cherry on the cake is the view of the lights of the Moorish Castle up on the hill twinkling down on us at night!
Absolutely beautiful facility! Best of all was the extraordinary staff that took such great care of everything and everyone. The views were breathtaking and the location was perfect for exploring everything from the palace to the old town. The manager was so kind helping us make reservations at the best local restaurant, and there was a wonderful game room where the kids could play chess and cards while we wrote postcards or relaxed with a book. Absolutely the best place we stayed in all of Portugal.
Charming apartment with amazing views over the old town and the valley. You can also see the Moorish Castle from the other side of the apartment. Sonia was super helpful and friendly. We took a cab from the train station so we didn't have to deal with our luggage. I'm glad we did. Those hills in Sintra are no joke! Quinta Regaleira and the National Palace of Lisbon are an easy walk. I recommend both! Lovely town. We stayed two nights, and I could have easily stayed more!
This was the best accom we experienced during our stay in Portugal. The service was A+, the room was spotless and comfortable, breakfast was perfect (freshly baked bread!), the laundry service was excellent and fast, the view was out of this world, the location was ideal and parking was so easy (once we got it through to the traffic cop that Casa do Valle offered parking and it was OK to let us through). Would definitely recommend even to fussy travelers.
The facility is wonderful, attractive, ideally located, plenty of outdoor spaces to relax. The breakfast offerings are tasty and varied. They have a well stocked espresso machine, and offer great selections of wine and beer.
Rui the manager is amazingly attentive and professional. He speaks perfect English and is happy to make dinner reservations or offer recommendations on how best to enjoy all Sintra has to offer.
I highly recommend Hotel Nova Sintra.
Very cleaned and stylish boutique hotels.
the room was small but everything was equipped and very well maintained.
Breakfast was amazing with vegan, gluten free meals.
if you decide to go to Azenhas do mar , stay here. You just need to walk 5-10 mins to go there anytime. Village is very safe to walk any time during Winter. From the city center of Sintra to hotel, it took 9-10 euro by Uber. But you can take bus as well (every 40 mins).
Location was central to town while also being on a side street so it was much quieter. Super cozy bed which was cleaned everyday. Felt more like a hotel then a hostel, which is a plus to me:) lots of amenities, jazz music outside for dinner which was the perfect level of noise. Simple but convenient breakfast and knowledgeable staff. truly one of our best stays in Portugal thus far!
This boutique hotel is amazing. The view is the best in Sintra. The bed was so comfortable, the room spotlessly clean, large fluffy towels, very hot water for a shower, quiet, and delicious breakfast. Alexandra was a wonderful host. We were celebrating an event and Alexandra delivered a bottle of Vinho Verde with strawberries to our room which was a lovely added touch.
The hotel was very nice, and the views are outstanding! You couldn't be in a more beautiful spot on the coast. The location is great, just outside of Sintra and an easy drive to Cascais. The pool is HUGE and looks like an extension of the beach. The hotel breakfast was delicious and dinner was wonderful too. Would highly recommend.
Hosts, cleanliness, location and apartment (4 bdrms!!) all exceeded our expectations. One of the best rentals of our Spain and Portugal trip for sure!
I read past comments before booking and was amazed to see that they had fulfilled most all suggestions!
Appreciated the luggage storage as well. 🙂 Lovely place!
Quinta dos Lobos' staff were exceptional and very helpful. The historic architecture of the buildings turned-into-a-boutique hotel were very interesting, comfortable and convenient to the sites and features of Sintra and while still providing solitude and privacy in a natural setting. It was an excellent value.
The location is perfect, very close to the beautiful beaches of Sintra and 20-30 minutes away from the Castles. If you want to experience the whole natural park, this is a great spot to stay at! We also really recommend the trail that goes from Cabo da Roca to Magoito beach. Very beautiful views.
A good localisation to visit Lisboa and other beautiful historical cities and rest at Praira Adraga, natural and one of the beautiful portugal beaches, very helpful apartament's owner - Mario, who explain everything and answer all our questions. 100% satisfaction !
Miguel was a wonderful, helpful host. The home is the best one we stayed in during our month long trip to Portugal: well built, immaculate, everything worked, fabulous location, large and bright, gorgeous views.
Lovely place to stay. Excellent location especially being near the train station for Lisbon and bus pick up point for the Palace. Has its own parking, a real bonus in Portugal. Restaurants and bars close by too!
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are breathtaking. It has that luxury small boutique hotel vibe, cozy and it was renovated with extreme good taste. It is very well located.
