If you like cafe's, bars and small boutique shops, for a range of tastes and prices, it's a great place to explore. The views are awesome, and the museums and public buildings are great. It is very hilly and the traffic is quite busy, but public transport is excellent with good trams, buses and tuk-tuks in the city, and some trains running quite late. The river is lovely but you need to take public transport to the beaches (not too far). Everyone we met spoke English well. If you are looking for nightlife, there are many small bars all over town, and a couple of busy areas designated for later revellers.Guest review bymichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Sintra is a picturesque town in Portugal, nestled in the Sintra Mountains near Lisbon. Known for its romantic 19th-century architecture, lush forests, and misty hills, it's home to stunning landmarks like Pena Palace, Moorish Castle, and Quinta da Regaleira. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sintra blends natural beauty with rich cultural history. Its major beauty is nature all around. FabulousGuest review byKatherine ZacharioudakiGreece - 10.0

Loads of amazing sights to see, lots of beaches (the ones in centre are super busy but just go up the coast for stunning quiet ones). At night it really comes to life, great food and everyone very friendly.Guest review byBenUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Setubal is absolutely fabulous and I am so glad I decided to extend my trip at the last minute and add Setubal. It has a great vibe. Lovely cobblestone streets and colorful buildings. Shops and restaurants on every street. There's the water and beachfront. There are lots of lovely green spaces, parks and playgrounds and gardens. It really has everything and it feels very authentic. I loved it and would happily go back!Guest review byHeatherIreland - 10.0
The place for surfing, sun and beach life.
The place for surfing, sun and beach life. Several kilometers of gorgeous sandy beaches and nice waves, suitable also for the beginning surfers. All the necessary services are available. People are still friendly for tourists and most understand English or Spanish in addition to Portuguese. Lots of young people and families there, not just elderly.Guest review byMirjamiFinland - 10.0

Sesimbra is a hidden gem on Portugal’s coast -peaceful, charming, and full of natural beauty. The beaches are pristine, with golden sand and crystal-clear water, perfect for swimming or relaxing. The town offers delicious seafood, friendly locals, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. Whether you're hiking in the nearby Arrábida mountains, exploring the historic castle, or enjoying fresh fish by the sea, Sesimbra has something for everyone. It's a perfect escape from the crowds - authentic, scenic, and unforgettable.Guest review byRita AmzalakUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want...
Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want a relaxing break away. There are plenty of hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants but there isn’t a specific area or ‘strip’ of these, they are just dotted around. The casino and its garden are a dominant and attractive focal point so there are a few places near to it. There’s Portuguese food, of course, but also Italian, Chinese, Indian and Japanese. You can get fish and seafood dishes of any sort but there’s also lots of steak on offer. Prices are very reasonable. Some people travel in and out of the town specifically and solely to use the beach by day or the casino by night, some to attend events at the glamorous looking fort on the beach, so the town isn’t dead but it can feel quiet at certain times. It’s definitely a chilled out place to stay in. There are only a few local shops for groceries and not really any souvenir shops. In my opinion, it has more of a local, residential vibe and isn’t touristy. For a change of scene, by train Cascais is just a 5 minute ride away or Lisbon is about 40 minutes away. It’s great to visit either and then escape the crowds by returning to Estoril! There is currently a replacement bus service in operation after 9pm (not sure how easy that is to use) but at other times the trains are very frequent and inexpensive.Guest review byPaulaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Oeiras is a suburb of Lisbon, so not overwhelmed by tourists. We found some great places to eat that were appreciative of our custom. There was a fantastic vegan restaurant just outside the town centre (Alma Veg). The main problem for us was the ddual carriageway that passes right by the beaches.Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Booked last minute on our travels. Loved it . Staff very helpful My only complaint would be that the hotel didn’t sell alcoholic beverages but it wasn’t a problem. A small bar 2 minutes away ( lovely) and Lidl next doorGuest review byJanetUnited Kingdom - 6.0

It's becoming too crowded, and it is no longer safe at night on the beach or the promenade. Prices have gone up a lot in restaurants and cafés, and most of the time, the quality of the food and service doesn't justify it. Another nice place lost to the excess of tourism.Guest review byBernardoPortugal
