A lovely victorian town with nice shops and very friendly staff -as with all places currently there are signs of the economic downturn , but overall it is well looked after * and has all the main amenities available . *The town council needs to URGENTLY revamp the toilets on the esplanade - disgusting state - needs investment urgently with the holiday season now upon us (july 1st ) . Lots of places to eat , varied tastes and some good antique / gift shops . If self catering there is a good Coop and Tesco Express in the town , lovely bakery and fresh vegetable stores . Lovely clock and watch shop at the top of the town , parking opposite the main shops . Lovely town steeped in history. Crab & Lobster Tap is a great local pub serving hearty, home made meals. Smoking Lobster right in the sea front serves fabulous seafood but it’s a very steep walk - we took a taxi back up to our apartment. The Heritage Centre was a great little find, run by very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. We wiled away over an hour, so much to read! Fabulous views everywhere! Quiet area. The property was very tastefully decorated and everything that we could possible need was already there. Very comfortable beds, Ventnor was excellent for access to the whole island and there were lots of hiking trails nearby, looking forward to exploring them next time!
