Montalcino is a quiet hill town that we love returning to often. We love walking all around town. A 4 hour hike gets you to Sant' Antimo Abbey and then you can take the bus back to town. We love eating at Il Moro and at Osteria di Porta al Cassero as well as Re di Macchia. Great town at the winter holidays!

We stayed in Montalcino two nights, which was about right for people who like wine but aren’t fanatics. Drove all over, got lost, went to Montepulciano (very crowded, steep and hard to get to—was very glad we stayed in Montalcino instead!) enjoyed the Abbey de Sant Altimo south of town, not overrun by people.

If you wish to visit Tuscany, Montalcino is the ideal place to stay. It's a lovely, attractive village with plenty of places to eat and drink. This region also has a lot of good restaurants. It is nevertheless quite close to other important towns and sites that are far more touristic, so I would recommend this area if you want to have a lot of options without being in the most touristic and busy locations around.

Fantastic little town. Some great restaurants.
Fantastic little town. Some great restaurants. Right in the best wine area in Italy. You will love it! Re di Macchia Restorante was so good. The best Florentine steak we ever had. Good prices and the owner Antonio gave us round after round of free Limincello and grappa. He is the best!!!!
The proprietor and host - Simone, couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. He was a real highlight of our visit. The room was rustic (as expected of an agriturismo), large and very clean. There was ample parking. We ordered the picnic basket for dinner (supper) after a long day of travel, and it was fantastic - cooked by Mom! We did the wine tasting on-site, and it is well worth the 18€. Naturally, we also left with a few bottles of excellent Brunello di Montalcino. We would definitely stay here again.
Awe-inspiring view from Colle a Matrichese hill top, at minutes away from Montalcino, overseeing the Val d’Orcia, topped with a fascinating 500-year family history still vividly touchable from where we were lodged, and one of the top-notch Brunello di Montalcino wineries at 0 meter. Don’t look further, we were over the moon.
The staff here were the friendliest out of any place we stayed in Italy. The property was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The breakfast was also delicious! The only negative I have is that I thought it was in Montalcino due to the address, but we had to drive 15 min to get to the square.
Lovely hotel with a stunning view. It was like being in the clouds. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool staring at the view. Nice continental breakfast with lots of choice, good coffee and friendly staff.
There is some limited parking but the turning in isn’t for the faint-hearted.
Great location near downtown Montalcino and gorgeous view of the wine vineyard. Had a tasting of the property's own Brunello in the tasting room. Great breakfast included and relaxing weekend lounging at the property. The team at the property couldn't be friendlier.
wow wow wow! it was a dreamy night! Sara and Mik were amazing and available for what we needed. they recommended about an amazing restaurant for dinner near the hotel. the breakfast was good and fresh and very tasty. no doubt we will come back again. thank you♥️
The view from the room was breathtaking. You can see Montalcino and Val d' Orcia from the room. Old and historic hotel, but very clean and renovated. I loved the old furniture. The restaurant in the hotel is wonderful and definately worth a visit.
Great Hotel in the centre of town although the accommodation is part of the main hotel 50mts down the road, you have to leave your accommodation to attend breakfast
the breakfast was very good
Amazing location, with a wonderful view. Quick walk up to Montalcino or walk down to numerous wineries. Beautiful grounds, garden, and pool. Room was huge, with vaulted ceiling.
Loved the breakfast, very tasty. The owners were very kind, gentle and professional. The room was spacious, and the hotel really comfortable and pretty. Will definitely return!
Breakfast was wonderful. The shower in the painter room is fantastic. Service was great. Make sure to try the restaraunt owned by the hotel downstairs—it is excellent.
The location is set on a hill overlooking the Tuscan countryside near Montalcino village. Accommodation is clean and bright. Good value for a night or two.
