Many families visiting Montalcino loved staying at Castello Banfi - Il Borgo, Hotel Vecchia Oliviera, and Albergo Il Giglio.
Loved the location on a Tuscan hill. Beautiful scenary and quaint village atmosphere. We were there in November so I recommend going in the Spring and Summer as it was a bit chilly especially at night. Small, village-oriented actvities, like a mercato or performers at the piazzas, would be nice.
Montalcino is a great town to visit and spend two three days exploring surrounding towns. In Montepulciano there are lots of wineries to visit and get educated on real Italian wines and have a feast on the local culinary options. Always a pleasure visiting our first LOVE - Montalcino.
A beautiful village that lives up to it's reputation. We were there for the countryside, the food and of course, the Brunello. Perfect for all three! For travellers with mobility issues the village may present some challenges as some of the streets are very steep. We would particularly recommend the Boccon Divino restaurant a short distance from the village - great food, great wine and great views. We also recommend a visit to the Camigliano winery.
Montalcino is a great town with beautiful historical buildings and unbelievable views of the valley, especially from the Fortezza. The town has plenty of good wine shops. Be aware when visiting in January a lot of restaurants will be closed. I had diner at some great restaurants like Re di Macchia offering local family style cuisine and Drogheria e Locanda Franci if you want more upscale Tuscan cuisine with a great wine selection and fantastic views from the glass covered terrace when having dinner. The roads in the city centre are tight but when leaving Montalcino make sure Google maps does not take you thru Via Lapini or you driving skills will be tested, specially with a larger car!
I've been to Montalcino many times and will keep coming back. A beautiful hill-top town with spectacular views, great history and fantastic wine. Best to book a restaurant for dinner as we struggled to find a table even in early October. An excellent base for exploring the Val d'Orcia, up to Siena and across to Montepulciano.
We walked on foot and it was a tough walk, but the view along the way was out of this world. The restaurants are not all good...even if people tell you they are good. The prices in the town is also a bit higher, but the visit is well worth it. Montalcino will stay with me in my heart.
Montalcino
The management was friendly, attentive, and very authoritative about Montalcino. Her recommendations for wine tasting and restaurants were excellent. The rooms were lovely, large and comfortable. The terrace outside was a superb place to spend the afternoon. A highlight of our trip to Italy, and we hope to be back. PS Breakfast was great, too.
Montalcino
Everything. It was private and romantic, and it exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was fully equipped, and we just went grocery shopping and cooked lunch and dinner. You’ll need a car if you stay here, but the drive into Montalcino is less than 10 minutes. The pool is beautiful, and the grounds and apartment are well-maintained.
It was convenient easy to find. Located at the gates into Montalcino. We had a room on the main level, corner unit so very quiet. Staff were amazing, very helpful to book reservations for diner and arranged a private tour of one of the wineries. Would recommend and go back again.
Great location, close to everything but yet not noisy outside. Room was nice and clean, but could have been better if there were tea making facilities.., but based on my stay in other hotels in this area, kettles are rare phenomena, which is difficult to stomach if you are a brit.
Montalcino
Super cute and cosy little house with the best host ever! Paulo was incredibly lovely and he made us feel like home. My family and I will always remember that wonderful day in Montalcino and will absolutely recommend the beautiful place and the whole experience.

Montalcino
Great location with a wonderful view of the grape vines in the valley. Beautiful sun rise out our bedroom window and a kitchen was a plus. Parking is always a extra in a small town and this hotel has it's own parking lot.
Montalcino
It was hard to find it. The check-in is actually made at Giglio hotel (in front of the building), but once you find it, its perfectly located and the breakfast is really good. Also it is super clean.
Montalcino
The location could not be better. Reception was very friendly and attentive. Accomodation matched our expectations. Free parking was arranged, not far from the hotel.
Beautiful hotel in a magnificent setting The staff were friendly and informative and both the restaurants that we dined in were first class.
Hotel with a very good location, comfortable, friendly staff, breakfast somewhat repetitive, possibly because it is not high season...

Literally everything about our stay at Castel Brunello was perfect! The host was so gracious greeting us. We mentioned we had driven for 5 hours and were starving and she brought us a delicious charcuterie board. She not only recommended restaurants, she also called to make dinner reservation. The entire property was beyond my expectation! We even decided to extended our stay there last minute. There is a great pool for relaxing and the views are gorgeous. This place was absolutely beautiful, I cant wait to go back! The place is just so peaceful, calm, clean, and more that we could have imagined. The breakfast was amazing, so many variety, everything so fresh and delicious, the staff so kind always asking if we wanted cappuccino, eggs, or anything. Thank you to the entire staff, in special to the host, for treating us like royalty and for making our stay so perfect. I've never stayed in a hotel as good as this one.
Montalcino
Everything was exceptionally clean, the mini fridge was well stocked and chocolates on the pillows were a special touch. The staff was very helpful with suggestions on where to go and what to do. The pool was AMAZING with the most stunning views. We also really enjoyed their spa room and wine tour of the property. Everything about Mastrojanni was simply spectacular and it’s definitely somewhere we would come back to to stay in Tuscany. Extremely tranquil and beautiful. Thank you to their amazing staff!
