The 2nd-largest city in Portugal's Algarve region after Faro, Portimão is best known for its beach resorts, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and ochre cliffs. It offers a variety of shopping malls, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. Don’t miss the fresh grilled sardines, a typical local dish.

It is nice for people from cold regions to enjoy sunshine from mid of Oct to mid of Feb.
We selected three 10-plus-km hiking trails, which are well maintained.
People are friendly and it is a safe to walk at nights.
We tried to find the best restaurants, but remember many high rating restaurants are close till 7 PM. We have never found a prestigious restaurants, all of foods are average. We dont like any buffets for dinner.
We might catch a covid with cough, trying to find water melon, which looks hard.

We loved the walkability of the beaches in the Portimao area...
We loved the walkability of the beaches in the Portimao area and it's convenience to other areas in the Algarve region. We rented a car and could easily drive throughout the region as well. There were also lots of restaurants and shopping along the Boardwalk area. It has everything to offer...great food, great shopping, and picturesque views/beaches.

We loved the super friendly and helpful people.
We loved the super friendly and helpful people. We were only here for ten days and so, in our experience, not long enough to have any negative impressions. It helps, perhaps, that we visited in November.

The size of the flat and location were very good and fair for the price.
However the flat was very warm from mid morning, which made it difficult to sleep and there wasn't a fan or any other cooling systems.
The wi-fi was not working and we were unable to contact anyone to ask about these, despite the advert saying the there was someone at the entrance of the building and the office near by was closed for the entire period. I would not mind to stay there again, but not during a warm period of time.

Lovely location, near enough to Faro airport to make it convenient via Taxi if needed. Plenty of shops/restaurants/bars (and not just the normal tacky ones). Beaches are beautiful and some of the little villages are stunning. A trip along the coastline to visit the caves is well worth it.

Excellent walking beaches, not crowded in mid October.
Excellent walking beaches, not crowded in mid October. Weather was fantastic. Also very good selection of restaurants and seaside bars. Able to accommodate any budget. The local supermarket was extremely large with quite a selection, and all staff were very friendly and spoke english.
Quinta de Paz is a lovely experience, really genuine and nicely different from all the mainstream accommodation in the Algarve. The adjoining two bedroom Chives room is excellent for a family with a really nice panoramic view of Portimao from the private balcony. We liked the smart residential area midway between Portimao and Praia de Rocha, both about 20- 25 minutes walk. Also easy to get to lovely Alvor beach. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and want to do what they can for you, including help on visiting places.
This hotel is really nice. While looking for a place to stay I am very picky. I’ve found this hotel and I am very happy about it. It was near the beach (the beach super lovely, huge), the bed and bathroom were clean. The price for this hotel was very cheap. Huge plus for a breakfast in the morning. It is very affordable hotel - when you don’t want to spend a lot of money but still want to be near the beach and have clean room and free breakfast.
Everything ! The staff, the grounds of the hotel, the breakfast is the best we've had in Portugal. The beach nearby is a beautiful and excellent beach ! We love everything about the place. I just wish it also has a ensuite with kitchen then it will be perfect ! The price is unbeatable. This is by far the best price, staff, breakfast and location we've had in Portugal. We will definitely return here when we return to Portimao !
The Algarve Casino Hotel has direct access to the stunning beach (via a stairway). It is spotlessly clean. Some may find the decor dated, but we found that it retro and with its own charm. The personnel are courteous and friendly. We would give special thanks to Nuno on reception and Ricardo, Ana, Olga & Viktor for their excellent service in the bars. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and will definitely be back.
My stay in Villa Prana was perfect. It feels like home. The room is cozy and spacious, exactly how it shows in the pictures. David and Silvia are very supportive and they made our stay very special.
The rooms are above the studio and we also could enjoy some yoga class and Ayurveda massage (highly recommended!)
Portimão is a good location to stay and explore Algarve region. I wish one day I will be back there.
Everything was just fine. According to the price it was very good quality. Those who expect a five star hotel, it's not your place. For the ones who only want a bed to sleep and a shower, it's more than fine. A little bad thing was that when I was there, the water of showers, no matter what you use cold or hot, were hot, too hot I would say. I think it was a failure or something.
We chose the apartment as it was close to the Algarve Race track and it was perfect. The apartment was spacious with a balcony giving views of the track, Portimao & the ocean. The facilities were great as well as the mini market. The hotel staff were most helpful & organised with arranging transport of our motorcycle from the hotel to The Netherlands. Wonderful place to relax.
the hotel is quite new, room is clean, room cleaning service is good, the hotel is close to the beaches and very quiet, have sea view in the room. restaurants not far away from the hotel. The weather is a bit cold in early june so I did not use the swimming pool, bit it looks clean and there is a bar next to the pool. price quite reasonable for a 4 star hotel having sea view.
This was a lovely and new hotel with helpful and friendly staff. The outdoor rooftop pool and bar was lovely. The decor was simple and clean and gave a great luxe holiday vibe to the place. Good breakfast too! Upgraded our room on the last night with a beautiful view and big balcony. This was a great value for money and the other guests were pleasant too.
We have been travelling for a month now and this place has been the best. I feel like it will hold a special place in our hearts. Dolly (the owner) is an incredible host. the location is awesome as we preferred the beaches in Portimao to some other locations. Rooms are great and you can’t beat the pool and outdoor area. Thank you Dolly!!
The hotel is lovely! It has everything you could need and it's all spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The balconies are lovely, the rooftop pool and bar are wonderful. The staff were super helpful and lovely touches like the shuttle to the beach and a great breakfast buffet!!
Great hotel with great location. The breakfast buffet was great and the food was very fresh. Suitable for vegan and vegetarian. The only thing missing were the pastéis de nata (we only had them one day). The room was very big, the beds were comfortable.
Love love love the view from our apartment! You can see the sunset from the balcony of the apartment. The interior of the apartment is also very modern-looking and pretty. Definitely recommend this place for people visiting Portimão.
The hotel is right in front of the Marina, the pools are easily accessible from the lower ground rooms and the deck where breakfast is served is very pleasant. The breakfast spread is quite nice, even for a 4 star hotel
This was the most comfortable room I stayed on this trip between 6 hotels in Portugal and Italy. The bed was huge which is rare in Europe. The view was perfect and the hotel food is great too. Staff are super friendly.
Located very close to the beach and main strip with restaurants and clubs, comfortable and luxurious room, kind staff and the best breakfasts I’ve ever had at a hotel!
