Lively Gateway to Western Algarve
The 2nd-largest city in Portugal's Algarve region after Faro, Portimão is best known for its beach resorts, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and ochre cliffs. It offers a variety of shopping malls, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. Don’t miss the fresh grilled sardines, a typical local dish.
This city combines the sparkling atmosphere of a big city with a compact size and easy access to the countryside. Alvor has the feeling of a small fishing village, while Praia da Rocha beach is a lively center full of restaurants, cafés and nightlife.
Every year, Portimão is the stage for the Mundialito de Futebol de Praia, an international beach soccer tournament. Sailing is also an important activity in the area, and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve race track has been open since 2008.
Just 10 miles away, you can find the ancient Moorish capital Silves. The historic city of Lagos is 14 miles away, while the surf paradise Sagres and Cape St. Vincent are approximately 37 miles away. Portimão is 41 miles from Faro Airport.

It's a really good base if you want to explore other local areas.
Loads of nice beach walks, and Uber is really good, as sometimes local transport isn't very punctional. Uber is very safe and inexpensive.

I love Portimao. The beach is the jewel of the town.
I love Portimao. The beach is the jewel of the town. Nearby there are many waterfront restaurants along the boardwalk. Tour companies offer a variety of cave visit, kayak, and dolphin spotting outings. The waterfront hotel is ideal and offers everything. The town also is home to a large fishery, where daily fishing operations are open for viewing. There are many restaurants for every budget, so vacationers of all income levels can feel welcome.

We had a fantastic time in Portimão.
We had a fantastic time in Portimão. The town offers the perfect blend of beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere. Praia da Rocha is stunning, with golden sands and breathtaking coastal views. The local people were friendly and welcoming, and there was plenty to see and do, from the marina and waterfront to nearby boat trips and coastal walks. The weather was excellent throughout our stay, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday. We would highly recommend Portimão and would happily return in the future. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great beach, the ocean's water is clean and with good...
Great beach, the ocean's water is clean and with good temperature to take a lot of baths and swim. Great restaurants, great bars, and I felt very safe by night, we always saw police officers in the street, by night. No problems at all. Locals are kind and we have a great time there. Is the third time in Portimão and we like it a lot!!! Great for families with kids as well.

Location was good. All local restaurants were within a 5-10 minute drive and were great! If you love going to the beach everyday, then this location is for you! Not so great for seniors as the beach access has 50-60 stairs.

Portimão is a fantastic destination.
Portimão is a fantastic destination. We especially loved Praia da Rocha, with its stunning golden beach, breathtaking coastline and beautiful cliffs. It was wonderful to walk along the beach and promenade, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. There are also plenty of excellent restaurants and cafés within walking distance. It’s the perfect place to unwind and experience the best of the Algarve. We can’t wait to come back.

Absolute fenomenal apartment, perfect view from the balcony, all the necessary amenities (coffe maker, washing machine, dishwasher etc.)
Very good value for money, excellent location close to the beach.
The apartment feels fresh, and looks very good inside, highly recommend, and will definitely book again if we come to Portugal one more time.

Fantastic hotel great location 10mins to the beach. Stunning view. Balcony to smoke cigars with morning coffee at sunrise or with evening whisky at sunset.
Staff are so kind friendly and helpful.

Perfectly located apartment. The vau beach is 5 minutes walk away and is one of the best beaches in the area. Grocery store and restaurants nearby. Portimao is an ideal base for excursions. Free parking was always available in front of the house. The apartment is clean and very nice. Thank you!

Very nice apartment with small garden close to the pool. Fully equipped kitchen and great for family holidays. Beach is also not too far away (and one of the nicest around Portimao). Host was very helpful and kind. We can definitely recommend this accomodation.
