FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

It was cleaner than expected and felt safer than expected...

It was cleaner than expected and felt safer than expected based on news the last few years. We heard that current mayor is trying to get things turned around. There were a lot of empty stores downtown, but shopping was better than expected. Still has some of the great restaurants from our visits many years ago - Scomas, Tadich Grill, Stinking Rose. It is still an interesting and beautiful city in many ways. The transportation to get around is still interesting with cable cars, trolleys and trains, and we felt safe. The hills are a challenge for walking great distances in a hurry. There are so many neighborhoods to explore, each with their own vibe. Loved the Italian area and sought out Graffeo Coffee Roasters, which is great! We had some great coffee at the Bohemian Cigar Store & Cafe. Best coffee ever in the Italian sense. We love the Buena Vista Bar was still there and serves a great breakfast (recommended by firemen) as well as their wonderful Irish coffee. We had a lovely meal with beautiful view and good food at McCormick & Schmick’s at Ghirardelli Square. Magnin Street Cafe & Bistro was a fun find. We ate there 2 evenings. Loved the Bistro Boudin on the Wharf. The food and service were great. Unexpected. Beautiful dining above the bakery area. Serve lunch and dinner. Had a view as well. The weather was almost perfect. Just beautiful in early September!

San Francisco is one of my favorite places to visit but be careful which hotels you choose because there's alot of scammers in the city. The city always has alot of night life for whatever your into. Last trip we enjoyed a black owned restaurant named Minnie Bell's Soulfood Movement which was a excellent choice.

My review of San Francisco: Gorgeous city, with really awesome weather and amazing food options. There are plenty of transportation options for people who don't have a car, from BART to Waymo to the iconic cable cars. The city is also very walkable, despite its hilly nature.

Great city-too many wonderful neighborhoods and sites to review. Try a Waymo if you want a thrill. Pick a museum if you’re an art lover. Go see the murals in the Mission district. Get ice cream at the Asian influenced Garden Creamery on 20th or Bi-Rite Creamery on 18th. Get pizza at Delfina also on 18th or at Square Guys Pizza downtown Just enjoy exploring!

I could have stayed longer if I booked everything in advance like at least two weeks in advance. Because of my unscheduled work, I could not book the hotel, and air in advance. That was main reason I only could stay one night and two days. However, if anyone can plan it in advance please stay more than two or three days. There are so many things to watch and enjoy and have a wonderful relaxing moments.

Spotless hotel in a great location. Neighbourhood is very safe and has plenty of bars & restaurants to enjoy. We saw some bad reviews for the car park around the corner so decided to park at a secure car park on union street roughly 10 mins walk away, it was $30 a for 24hrs and very secure. The hotel’s loading bay at the entrance makes unpacking and repacking the car with luggage super easy. Also the rooftop has fantastic views of the city. Overall by far the best option we had found in San Francisco, especially for the price.

WE had excellent service, good food at breakfast and good selection. Nice touch having the wine hour from 5-6pm. The location was great. We walked to the munibus to catch downtown, only 3 blocks away. Nice having the beautiful park across the street to walk in and enjoy a coffee. We also caught the big bus tour just down on Haight and that area had nice restaurants in it. Overall it was all easy access to lots of ammenities! Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in San Francisco!

Location is good either you visit for business or sightseeing. Hotel is close to ferry building with food market, Chinatown and North Beach, all in walking distance. Also area is safe and quiet at nights. Its not sketchy like Union Square or Market Street. You may see few homeless. Hotel offers amenities beyond 3 stars. Room was clean and packed with microwave, fridge and coffee machine. Also there are empty bottles and water dispensers on each floor so you can refill it anytime.

The Hotel is geographicly very good located, close to cable car and union square (shoping) However it is also close to (almost in) Tenderloin which is an extremely bad area. There are lot of homeless people on the street outside the hotel, but this is the way San Francisco obviously wants their city to be, so it is the same almost every where... I never felt that the area was unsecure, so location must be considered to be good.

Great location, right next to Union Square and the cable car line. Old historic building, large hall with beautiful decoration. The rooms were spacious. The hotel offers a continental breakfast which is very limited, but there are several breakfast options nearby, we loved Lori's. Great starting point for exploring San Francisco.
