FAQs about hotels in Siena

Romantic Renaissance

Surrounded by rolling hills and Chianti vineyards, Siena shines as a jewel of the Tuscan Renaissance, and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the famous Palio di Siena horse race, catch the pulse of the city at Piazza del Campo, visit the beautiful Duomo cathedral…and fall in love with this charming city!

Founded by Etruscans around 900 BC, the city was first conquered by Romans and later by Lombards. The Middle Ages saw it becoming the independent and flourishing Republic of Siena, until its annexation to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

The economic difficulties that followed turned out to be a blessing for the preservation of its historic center. Adorned with frescoes by Ghirlandaio and bass-reliefs by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Jacopo della Quercia, the Duomo represents the highest expression of this well-kept legacy. The shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, with the Palazzo Pubblico and the Gaia Fountain, is still the heart and soul of the city. Follow the labyrinth of narrow streets and passages that irradiate from there and you will be enchanted by its romantic atmosphere from ancient times.

The closest airports are Peretola Airport in Florence and Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa, though Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna is also well connected. While planning your trip, don’t forget to check out the Siena accommodations deals on Booking.com!

A beautiful city that is a little slower, quainter and quirkier than Florence. I loved wandering the streets with no particular destination, and found wonderful restaurants all around. The duomo, San Domenico church and opera museum are all worth visiting! I also did a Tuscany wine tour starting from Siena which was the perfect way to explore the surrounding areas as a solo traveller.

Siena is a marvel if you are drawn to the past.

Siena is a marvel if you are drawn to the past. One thing to consider is how you access the centro storico. We were fortunate to have a driver and it made all the difference for ease and mobility. If you are comfortable walking then parking outside that center is just fine.

IT WAS MY SECOND TIME IN SIENA AND I WANTED TO SEE IT AGAIN.

IT WAS MY SECOND TIME IN SIENA AND I WANTED TO SEE IT AGAIN. BUT AT MY AGE 79 - IT WAS VERY DEMANDING FROM THE PHYSICAL P.O.V. IT WAS REALY HARD TO MOVE AROUND. THE VISIT AT THE DUOMO WAS FANTASTIC. I RECOMMEND TO TAKE A GUIDED TOUR - I DID NOT AND I WAS STEELING INFORMATION FROM OTHER GUIDES IN SEVERAL LANGUAGES OR OPEN AI EXPLANATIONS. THE PIAZZA DEL CAMPO IS UNIQUE - TAKE YOUR LUNCH OR DINNER IN ONE OF THE MANY RESTAURANTS AROUND IT. TAKE YOUR TIME TO TAKE IN THE BEAUTY..

Siena is full of character, cobbled streets and wonderful views. But bear in mind there are lots of steep inclines, so walking can be very tiring. We cut our stay in Siena from 6 nights to 3 nights and that was just the right time. There are loads of restaurants and cafes. Perfect!

We loved Siena because it gave us the old town experience, and on a perfect size between Florence and Montepulciano (or any smaller town). You get large piazzas, history, food, drink, people, and streets to explore, and you also get to stumble into completely different neighborhoods. Old town Florence can take 10 days by itself to really dig in and experience. Siena can be seen in about 4. And, it's only a short trip to vineyards all over Tuscany.

A lovely quiet hotel, about 13 min walk to Il Campo and the heart of Siena. The room is big, lovely double bed, hot water in the shower and they gave me a hot water kettle since I don't drink coffee available in the lobby. Staff were very helpful with recommendations and how to get around Siena.
