Sportsmans Valley Hotel, hotel in Liskeard

Just 984 feet off the A38, opposite Menheniot railway station, Sportsmans Valley Hotel is a traditional inn offering bright rooms with modern bathrooms.

The room was much bigger than expected. It's within spitting distance of the train station. They made a breakfast exactly how I wanted it. The fish'n'chips was perfect in every regard.

We stayed here a year and a half ago just as the new owners were taking over and the place has been transformed. Lovely clean room with a complementary bottle of wine which was a lovely extra. We had dinner and drinks in the restaurant which was very tasty and really good value for money and it had a lovely atmosphere with a cosy wood burning fire. We opted for a rate with breakfast which again was fantastic with great quality ingredients and my daughter loved the hot chocolate. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.

Supermarkets within a 10 minute drive of site

Supermarkets within a 10 minute drive of site Have stayed at this site many times and have found egress from the site can be risky. We leave the site by turning left, do a U turn at next junction on right, then join traffic with good site in wing mirror. We eat at several different outlets. Trelawney Garden Centre near Wadebridge recommended as is Trago Mills.

It is a central location which makes it a good base to explore from. We didn't actually visit the town but drove to the Eden Project, Tintagel, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Polperro, St Austell etc. The local roads are narrow and winding, it takes ages to get anywhere, and you have to reverse a lot back to passing places on single track roads! We are vegetarian and found it easy to find really good places to eat. I recommend visiting Olive and Co at Sibleyback lake.

The clothes drying outside was not the best as the sun wasn’t on the wash line much However there was a washer dryer (which I don’t like) should you need to get something dry We visited Newquay, Perranporth and Looe, the latter being our favourite as it was nearest and had crab fishing as well as the beach

The hotel is 5 miles from Liskeard, which we did not visit other than to drive through! There is at least one petrol station which we did use. However there are plenty of places of interest within a short drive. We ate at Wheal Tor and several of the local inns.

The town itself is quite a depressed area and so not particularly touristy, but it is easy travelling distance from some amazing countryside and this makes a good stopover to/from places further west.

We both had a terrific time and we were made to feel so welcome by Susan and Ted during our stay with them. Nothing was too much trouble whenever we asked anything. Our room was bright, comfortable and spacious and wonderfully prepared. Our breakfast was plentiful and delicious and presented so professionally. We couldn't thank them more for helping to make our holiday such a memorable one. Our stay with them was such a delight. Liskeard is a great place to base your stay for anyone wanting to visit Cornwall.

Booked this as it was only 3 miles from where I was to do some work. The room was spotless, plenty of tea and coffee and a bottle of water, a real mug and a real glass for the water! Plenty of toiletries. Lovely breakfast cooked to order. Sadly the bar and kitchen are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but I was may aware of this at the time of booking and they supplied me with information on local restaurants and take aways. Great parking.

Cottage was quaint, clean and had everything you required. Attention to detail by the hosts brilliant. Literally in the middle of no where - where you can truly relax and enjoy the countryside. Games room available with pool table & table tennis great for entertainment in the evening - distracting the kids away from devices. Loved the Forrest area to walk the dog and enjoy fire pit one evening.

Breakfast was good. It’s a shame the pub doesn’t currently serve food in the evening. Carpets dates but en suite newly refurbished and room generally clean and comfortable. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. If you’re expecting bang up to date this isn’t it but it’s good value and met my expectations for accommodation above a rural pub. The new bathroom exceeded expectations.

Wonderful hosts, lovely room, comfy bed, what more could a body ask for? Perhaps a lovely cottage garden to sit in and enjoy watching the birds and listening to the sound of the water cascade down to the pond? Tick! It’s the perfect little oasis for anyone looking to escape to Cornwall. Very good location for visits to Looe, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey.

The Shippon made a great base for a week in Cornwall for myself, my wife and our dog. We were greeted with fresh scones and home made jam to help us settle in, the facilities were great and the location was perfect. Relaxing in the hot tub after a days walking on Bodmin Moor was bliss.
