A quiet backwater perfectly positioned for touring Essex coast and south Suffolk. Fabulous sandy beaches. Constable country nearby and some grand houses to visit. Also, nature reserves with bird marshes to explore.

A pretty little village with pubs and restaurants. Quaint old high street but not very well lit at night. We went out for a walk but it was a bit dark in places. We like the little town of Thorpe le sokem.

The peace and privacy were the big things for me, as well as the unexpected glory of the garden in which the lodges are situated. I travelled to Thorpe le Soken fom Liverpool for my sister's 50th birthday celebrations. This was a huge garden event with marquee, and many guests, so my experience isn't one of finding my way around solo. I was picked up and brought back, with most of my time spent with my sister, and her family and friends. Garden Lodges was perfect for me from this perspective. There is a very glamorous health spa opposite, for travellers to know!

Although the room was decorated in a modern way the original features were allowed to shine through. Breakfast was excellent, obviously freshly made and very tasty. Staff were extremely polite, attentive and helpful. The food was very good in the evening. Free off road parking. The room was by the road, but the double glazing is very effective, with no issues with noise.
